Aluminium Apple Remote & Keyspan URM-15T Not working
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Recently purchased a Keyspan URM-15T receiver with the hope I'd be able to bring back compatibility for my apple remote.

The hardware page says this should support the aluminium apple remote.

The cheap remote that came with my receiver works.

I've tried pairing the remote holding menu and next buttons but nothing happens.
My apple remote has battery power.

The menu seems to be trying to pickup signals for the apple remote

What else am I missing?

Thanks for asking.

Pairing an Apple Remote is very different from f.ex. pairing a Bluetooth remote: the Apple Remote will work with Remote Buddy out of the box - and pairing really just enables a filter so that henceforth only IR commands with the ID (0-255) of the Apple Remote used for pairing will be accepted.

You can view the pairing status at Remote Buddy Prefs > Hardware > [Keyspan IR Receiver].

If the Apple Remote doesn't seem to work:

1) try unpairing the remote in the aforementioned prefs (if paired, this option will be presented to you there)

2) consider replacing the battery. Unlike its plastic predecessor the aluminum Apple Remote does not send a low battery warning code and sometimes sends incomplete or crippled IR codes when power is low.

3) be sure to try pressing the Menu button, which in most situations should enter Remote Buddy's menu.

Thanks for your reply.

* Replaced the battery
* Tested with a different iMac that has built in IR and can pair and works
* On the non-built-in-IR-iMac with the keyspan reciever tried to unpair but I don't think I see that option

* Pressing menu doesn't bring up anything

The cheap plastic keyspan remote makes the Keyspan Reciever flash. When I press any buttons on my apple remote it doesn't flash so I don't think it's reacting to the apple remote at all.

Thanks for the feedback.

The pairing option would be found as an option on the receiver level. You'd need to click on "Keyspan UIA-11 F", not "Apple Remote" for its options.

Interesting as it should actually respond to any IR input (including sun light).

One idea: does this happen before you start Remote Buddy – or while it is running? The Keyspan Receiver needs to be initialized before it accepts any input.

The options I see are enabled for Apple Remote.

I also tried this:
The keyspan reciever has an ID-Pair button on it so I pressed that and it began blinking so I tried holding down the next and menu buttons on my remote as if I was pairing the remote normally. But still nothing is accepted.

Even if remote buddy is running or shut down the keyspan receiver doesn't react to my apple remote. Again the cheap remote that comes with the receiver can always make it flash.

I also tried with an old white apple remote I remembered I had - it also doesn't work.
