iTunes Problem

Thanks for a great program, well done.

This is my first (not last) Mac, a mini, I'm using primarily as a music server for my home theater system.

I use the right & left buttons to select the next or previous CD (held scrolls, [slower would be nice, I've got it set to slow and it still flies]) and + & - for track selection (held plays next/previous track), Play is Play/Pause (held is 'Return' to play displayed CD in the CoverFlow pane or selected track). I'm using a programmable remote ('learned' buttons as raw data with the button held) so I don't need to worry about volume, I have buttons to control my receiver.

When I activate iTunes via RB, I would like to be able to select the CoverFlow pane to get the behavior I expect and desire. Currently I have to click in the pane or use the keyboard to Select All. Is there a way to automate this using RB?

Thanks again,

Bill

Hello William,

thanks for asking.

I'm afraid I can't offer you help with that specific problem, though.
There does not seem to be a way to do this via AppleScript and I
don't know of key combinations that would safely achieve what you
want to do, either.

If all you need is the Select All, though, you can do the following:

1) Go to the mapping settings for iTunes
2) Click on the entry for the button you want to map to the Select All.
3) Select "Custom Actions".
4) Enter the data for Select All (Apple + A).

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Felix

Felix,

Thanks for your reply.

I've found a way to make it work.

I mapped the default behavior in Hardware for the Apple Remote Held Menu to the Apple A keypress I defined in an action pack.

It's not ideal, but I retain the use of the rest of the buttons for iTunes. It may cause complications using the remote for other applications, but if I'm using the mini for other tasks I usually need to pull out the mouse and keyboard anyway.

Being able to map to Menu Held in Mapping would be
a plus for me, definitely preferable to a global mapping. But I am very happy.

Thank You

Regards
William

Hello William,

thanks for letting me know. You can, however, perfectly use your
custom action only inside the mapping table for iTunes (which is what
I'd recommend seeing you only want this functionality in iTunes
anyway) instead of using it in the global mapping table.

To do that:

1) Reset your global mapping for the Apple Remote to revert you change.

2) Go to Mapping > iTunes and assign your action to the button of
your choice with one more click.

Best regards,
Felix
