Hello Bernd,

thanks for your posting and detailed private mail.

The problem is complex and there are several reasons why this does
not work:

1) Your receiver is a very old revision with a different product ID
(=> not in the list of receivers Remote Buddy recognizes).

2) I actually have been able to get hold of such an old revision
receiver several months ago (investing quite some money in the
process, too). I have also been able to decode the protocol. Problem
is, I can't initialize that revision of the receiver without
violating Keyspan's copyright.

I'm still looking for an exit to that situation, but for now using
that revision of the receiver with Remote Buddy is not possible.

Keyspan DMR bundles sell very cheaply on eBay these days, though. And
when I was looking for an old revision, I didn't find a single offer,
there (all offers were of the newer revision). Not exactly a solution
with your model of the receiver, but a not very expensive alternative.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Felix

Hello Bernd,

yes, the Keyspan Express Receiver is a safe choice.

The Keyspan Remote for iTunes bundle contains the same receiver and
is pretty low-priced in comparison to the Express. I couldn't find a
German distributor for it last time I checked, though.

Best regards,
Felix

I think i have the same problem as Bernd: RB installs correctly and does not give me the "white box" problem. But it does not recognize my Keyspan DMR. My receiver & remote part numbers are: UIA-10 and REM-17B, respectively.

Is this the same hardware that Bernd has? Can i buy the iTunes remote package and be compatible with RB, or do i have some other problem?

I'm anxious to try out RB. The demo video looks -awesome-.

Hello Jerud,

thanks for asking.

The UIA-10 receiver is an older revision that will probably never be
supported for legal reasons (I've been able to decode the protocol
completly, but to make it work would violate Keyspan's copyright as a
side effect).

The Keyspan Remote for iTunes (URM-15T), though, will work just fine
with Remote Buddy.

Although you don't experience the problem, but since you mention it:

I've been able to track down the "white box" problem and it will be
solved with the next release. Basically what the current release is
doing is to try to open the requester that offers uninstalling the
Keyspan drivers from the seperate driver thread, which is not
supported by OS X and yields this as a result. It was merely an
overlook when going for the multithreaded driver model ;-)

The temporary fix for everybody experiencing this is to just use the
Uninstall tool supplied by Keyspan directly and only then launch
Remote Buddy.

Best regards,
Felix

Is there a list of receivers that *don't* work? I'm eyeing one that is listed as UIA-11 which I assume works based on this thread, but I'd like to be sure before I plunk down my cash.

Thanks!!

Hello James,

thanks for asking.

You can be sure that this UIA-11 receiver works with Remote Buddy if
it is or was part of a:
- Remote for iTunes bundle
- Express bundle

For the Digital Media Remote bundle, this can be an older, rare
revision that can't be supported by Remote Buddy for legal reasons.
To get certainty in that point, ask the seller for the USB Product
and Vendor ID (he can find out easily via the OS X System Profiler)
and compare them with those in the table on the "Supported Hardware"
page. If they don't match, it's the old, rare revision. If they do
match, that receiver will work with Remote Buddy.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Felix
