Is it possible to create my own custom menus that show up in remote buddy?

I would like to create new menu items or modify the default menu items that are part of remote buddy?

It appears that some of this can be achieved through the applescript interface provided by remote buddy, but I want to have the ability to use some of the default behaviours. For exmaple, I would like to use the system volume control in a custom menu. It appears that the custom menu created via the applecript interface in RM cannot be run from RM buddy itself.

Any help would be appreciated.

Debashis

Hello Debashis,

thanks for asking.

This is in fact perfectly possible. Have a look at the screenshot at

menuConfigurationShot.jpg

Simply follow these steps:
1) Open Preferences and click on "Menu"

2) Select "Debashis' profile" from the popup in the header of the
right table.

3) Start making changes so the menu fits your needs by simply
dragging and dropping menu items, folder and files - from the left or
the Finder.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Felix,

Thank you for your quick response. Let me try to restate my question....

I would like to be able to define my own custom menu items. For example:

TV
-> Live TV
-> Recorded Shows
Movies
-> DVD library
-> Home Movies
Music
-> iTunes
-> Internet Radio
Photos
-> Slideshow

I would like to have the opening RM menu contain the 4 headings ("TV", "Movies", "Music" & "Photos") and then have the ability to drill down to the sub-menues ("Live TV", "Recorded Shows", etc.). In some cases, I would like to use the supplied behaviours and actions. In other cases, I may create new behaviours or actions or custom applicripts.

Is it possible to use RM to do this? Essentially I would be replacing the default menu selectiosn with new custom selections that are not part of the exsiting set of behaviours or actions. It seems that I can use Applescript Editor to create the top-level menues and the sub-menues (based on the example you have provided).

I apologize, if there is an obvious solution. I am still trying to learn your great product.

Best Regards,

Debashis

Felix,

I am using Applescript Editor to control Remote Buddy. I have been able to modify the example text available through the script dictionary to a create custom menu. I think I am set for the time being.

Thank you for your help.

Hello Pramanik,

thanks for letting me know!

You'll also be able to configure most of this with one of the next
releases, though.

Hi Felix,

Does the latest release support the ability to create custom menus as described above?

Hello Debashis,

thanks for staying on top of this.

I ran out of time for RC2's deadline (which was the ADA deadline),
but it's still planned for a release not too far in the future.

Best regards,
Felix
