Problems Putting MSN into the applications menu
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I followed the Behaviour Construction Kit to try and add MSN to my application list, but it didn't work.

I followed the instructions in the video on the website, but MSN doesn't seem to show up.

The only commands i wanted on it were up and down, and then enter to open a convo window.

Im not sure how to explain it any better as i don't really understand how it all works.

[Edit] When i press the 'Run Actor' the actions i have input operate MSN in the appropriate way. It just doesn't show up in the menu. [/Edit]

Anyone got any words of wisdom?

Cheers

Anyone?

This is really bugging me. I've gone over the steps 3/4 times.

Hello Jake,

thanks for asking.

What do you mean by MSN? The website, a client, MSN Messenger? (I
haven't followed anything MSN for a while)

If you've created a Behaviour and your sole problem is that you don't
get it added to the menu, please have a look here:

I am trying to put the MSN messenger application into the menu.

I realised it might be because i was only on the free trial, and so bought a license. When i tried again, MSN appeared in my menu.

However, after restarting my mac MSN had disappeared from the menu again. I have tried to create a new behavior but again, MSN messenger will not show up in the Remote Buddy menu. I have followed the video on the website step by step.

Hello Jake,

thanks for the info.

If you select only "Compile and testdrive", the addition of your
Behaviour to the menu is temporary and will be gone on next startup.

If you select "Export scripted Behaviour" and just confirm the file
dialog, Remote Buddy will save the Behaviour in its search path
permanently and it'll be available on next startup. As its really
just an export function, it does not add the Behaviour to the menu
right away, but rather just do what its labeld: export the Behaviour.

So:
- if you want to permanently add your Behaviour to the menu, use the
"Export" function
- if you want to testdrive it without restarting Remote Buddy, select
"Compile and testdrive".
- if you want to testdrive it without restarting Remote Buddy and
permanently add your Behaviour to the menu, make use of both functions.

The last option, which seems to be the most common one, too, will be
an entry of its own in RC2. You find all of the mentioned entries in
the BCK under "Behaviour Factory" when selecting your own Behaviour
and clicking on "gears" symbol on the lower, left side of the window.

Also, if you should be using a customized menu (Preferences > Menu),
Remote Buddy does not add entries to it itself, so if you add a new
Behaviour and you want it to show up as menu entry, you'll have to
manually add it. Remote Buddy's default menu will automatically
adjust, though. In either case, loaded Behaviours always show up in
Preferences > Mapping.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Felix
