Can Remote Buddy Listen to Non-Apple Remote Key Presses?
View

Hi, sorry if this was covered by your FAQ but, I wasn't sure... I am using eHome Receiver and a Logitech Harmony remote that it emulating the Apple Remote. I have a G4 Mac Mini running your Remote Buddy app.

I'm wondering if the Remote Buddy can listen to non-Apple Remote key presses. I would like to use additional keys (other than those provided by the Apple Remote) and assign other actions to those (such as the CTRL-TAB or a activate a specific application). Is this possible?

BTW, thanks for the great product! My mac mini would have stayed unused on my shelf if it weren't for Remote Buddy!

Hello,

thanks for asking.

Right now, you can only use Apple Remote button codes with the eHome
Receiver and Remote Buddy. Sorry.

I plan to extend eHome receiver support, but other items have higher
priorities on the list. You can use more codes with a supported
Keyspan IR receiver, as Remote Buddy allows simultaneous use of both
Keyspan's remote control and an Apple Remote with those.

Best regards,
Felix

Anyone have any idea whether the Harmony remote can emulate a Keyspan IR remote (DMR, iTunes or Express) and work with the Keyspan receiver? Those remotes have 17 buttons... having access to 17 functions on a Harmony remote with Remote Buddy would be a pretty impressive setup.

Hello Silas,

the DMR, iTunes and Express remote controls are actually all sending
the same codes. They just bring slightly different receivers with
them. I don't own a Harmony remote, but you may find the info you are
looking for by searching the web for it (the knowledge that the codes
are equal may be of help in that context).

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Silas, I'm willing to bet that that setup would work. Send me a Keyspan IR receiver and I can test it for you. :)
