Remote Buddy and Front Row conflict
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I'm running the latest RC2 release on an Intel iMac running 10.4.9. My problem is that when my computer is first started and Remote Buddy has loaded, Front Row is also responding to my Apple Remote keypresses. For instance, I'll be watching EyeTV and will press the Menu button - the Remote Buddy menu will pop up but Front Row will also be activated. Left and right keypresses will increase BOTH EyeTV and system volume.

Am I missing something here? If I quite Remote Buddy and restart it this behaviour stops and I can use it, without the Apple Remote doing what it normally does as well.

Hello Ben,

thanks for asking.

Please accept my apologies for the unpersonal answer, but the problem
and its solution are already documented in the FAQ:

Q: When pressing the menu button, both the Remote Buddy menu and
Front Row are being displayed. Also, two actions are activated for
other buttons as well. I have this problem since installing OS
10.4.9 / a security update. (FAQ015E0171)

A: AppleŽ has released a security update (contained in both OS 10.4.9
and available seperately), that contains changes to the HID Family.
This, on many computers, leads to the problem that exclusive access
to the events generated by the AppleŽ Remote is no longer reliable.
The consequence of this is that multiple applications receive and
react to these events. This problem affects all applications with
support for the AppleŽ Remote, not just Remote Buddy.

We've developed an exclusive kernel extension to solve this problem
for Remote Buddy users. You can install and uninstall this kernel
extension with ease using the "Setup Wizard" in Remote Buddy at any
time.

The Remote Buddy kernel extension reliably fixes the problem in an
absolutely clean, system conform way, without making any changes to
the original OS X files. Besides - and this is a Remote Buddy
exclusive - you benefit of smaller reaction times and support for
arbitrary length play and menu button presses.

You can reach the "Setup Wizard" via the menu behind the Remote Buddy
Symbol in your menu bar.
