Hello

When selecting my apple remote's menu key, rate tracks is greyed out(disabled) in Coverflow Full.

Specifically, when I select the menu key on my apple remote, the 'rate tracks' area is greyed out. In order to enable rate tracks, I have to 'skip right' into the music browser and then...'skip left' to return to the 'current track' menu. Strangely, if I am NOT playing music from a smart playlist, rate tracks works fine.

anyone know what this could be?

Hardware - Apple® Remote

After uninstalling/quitting Remote Buddy, my Mac® no longer reacts to the Apple® Remote. (FAQ015E0241)
To enable you to use all capabilities of the IR Receiver of your Mac®, Remote Buddy is using its own driver. In contrast, all other applications with integrated Apple® Remote support usually use the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

As long as you're running Remote Buddy, Remote Buddy and its driver are responsible for turning the received button presses into actions. As soon as you quit Remote Buddy, this task is again handled by the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

If other applications don't use the interface to the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem correctly, this can lead to the effect that nothing happens when you press a button on your Apple® Remote. For as long as you're running Remote Buddy, issues like this are covered by Remote Buddy and it's driver and are therefore not visible to you. However, as soon as you quit Remote Buddy, the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem is back in control and any issues caused in it by other applications become visible.

Therefore Remote Buddy is neither the cause of the issue nor is it responsible for it. Instead, the cause of the issue exists independently of Remote Buddy. It's located elsewhere and can also only be solved there.

Although our products can't cause any such issues, we're regularly contacted about such issues and asked for help. In order to make locating and fixing the cause of such issues as easy and efficient as possible, we've developed a free diagnostics tool: Remote Control Diagnostics. It can locate issues with a single click and will provide you with information about the issue as well as with instructions on how you can fix it.
After updating to OS X 10.6.2, my Apple® Remote is no longer available for selection in Remote Buddy. (FAQ015E0236)
Please update your copy of Remote Buddy to version 1.15 or later.

Here is what I am seeing....

While in CoverFlow(full screen mode):
+ Select the Menu button on the Apple's Remote
++ RB (Remote Buddy) toggles iTunes back to non-fullscreen mode
++ RB launches the track's options (volume,rating,repeat,shuffle,picture)
++ The rating option is greyed out (disabled)

Here are two work-arounds to re-enable RB's track ratings menu option.
1) Skip Right on RB's Music Browser menu option, and then, Skip Left to return to RB's Track menu mode

2) With RB's menu still active, Apple-Tab'ing to another application re-enables RB's track rating option

Here is what would make sense to me:
+ While in in CoverFlow(full-screen) mode, press Apple Remote's menu button
++ RB's menu overlays over CoverFlow(full-screen) and remains in the full screen mode
++ Rate Tracks is automatically enabled
++ The user rates the track
++ The user presses Apple Remote's menu button to hide RB's menu

This is already possible - but right now you have to decide whether
you want to turn control over to the CoverFlow mode or stick with the
mapping for iTunes®.

To achieve this, select "Toggle CoverFlow full screen mode" instead
of "Activate CoverFlow control mode" in the mapping table for iTunes®.

This morning, RB's menu overlay in Coverflow (fullscreen mode) appears to be working great. Maybe, RB updated itself with your patch?

Can you guys fix the same exact issue for iTunes Party Shuffle (fullscreen) ?

Party Shuffle is exhibiting the same bug as (was) Coverflow fullscreen.

Many thanks as Coverflow fullscreen has been working perfectly. I can now easily rate tracks with RB.

Remote Buddy never updates itself without asking for permission,
first. So that the problem disappeared for you is probably owed to
another parameter - perhaps timing.

I'll investigate on the problem later today.

I still have not been able to narrow down the bug. Currently, everything is working again, and I am not sure why.
When it is not working, activating Apple Remote's menu button will cause iTunes to exit Full-Screen Mode and diable the 'Rate Tracks' section in RB's menu overlay.

I'll see if I can consistently reproduce the problem over the weekend
