Sling Box 1.0 Software

I used to be able to use sofa control and remote buddy with the beta sling box software but now with the shipping 1.0 version none of the buttons seem to work. Anybody else with this problem? Any ideas?

Hardware - Apple® Remote

After uninstalling/quitting Remote Buddy, my Mac® no longer reacts to the Apple® Remote. (FAQ015E0241)
To enable you to use all capabilities of the IR Receiver of your Mac®, Remote Buddy is using its own driver. In contrast, all other applications with integrated Apple® Remote support usually use the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

As long as you're running Remote Buddy, Remote Buddy and its driver are responsible for turning the received button presses into actions. As soon as you quit Remote Buddy, this task is again handled by the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

If other applications don't use the interface to the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem correctly, this can lead to the effect that nothing happens when you press a button on your Apple® Remote. For as long as you're running Remote Buddy, issues like this are covered by Remote Buddy and it's driver and are therefore not visible to you. However, as soon as you quit Remote Buddy, the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem is back in control and any issues caused in it by other applications become visible.

Therefore Remote Buddy is neither the cause of the issue nor is it responsible for it. Instead, the cause of the issue exists independently of Remote Buddy. It's located elsewhere and can also only be solved there.

Although our products can't cause any such issues, we're regularly contacted about such issues and asked for help. In order to make locating and fixing the cause of such issues as easy and efficient as possible, we've developed a free diagnostics tool: Remote Control Diagnostics. It can locate issues with a single click and will provide you with information about the issue as well as with instructions on how you can fix it.

Hello Brendon,

thanks for the information.

I do not have access to the Sling Box software, so I can't test this
myself.

However, from what I know, the Sling Player software does now have
support for the Apple Remote itself. Which means that you can use the
Virtual Remote in Remote Buddy to control it.

Please try the following:

1) Make sure you have the Remote Buddy kernel extension installed.
2) Launch SlingPlayer.
3) Enter the Remote Buddy menu and activate the virtual remote using
"Input devices > Virtual Remote > Activate Behaviour".
4) Use your remote to see whether it works as expected.

Any feedback from you on this would be greatly appreciated. I would
then update the Behaviour to reflect the change.

Hi Felix,

I am too encountering problems with Remote Buddy (v1.0.5) controlling the latest version of SlingPlayer (v1.0.2.195).

I tried activating the SlingPlayer behaviour within the Remote Buddy menu, but that has no affect to any of the function of SlingPlayer nor the Mac's built in volume.

If I follow your instructions and activate the Virtual Remote the only thing I can control is the Mac's built in volume.

Please help if you can.

thanks for the info.

I've downloaded the SlingPlayer DMG file and tried to find out which
shortcuts can be used. As IOSPIRIT is based in Germany and we don't
have access to a SlingBox here, my possibilities to find about them
are very limited, though.

I'd love to provide an updated version of the SlingPlayer Behaviour,
but would either need a list of keyboard shortcuts that work for it -
or temporary access to a SlingBox over the net (my understanding is
that the SlingPlayer streams the media of your SlingBox over the
net), so I can actually use, test and work with the interface of the
SlingPlayer app.
