Support for Pinnacle PCTV Hybrid Tuner Kit for Windows Vista receiver
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I bought the Pinnacle PCTV Hybrid Tuner Kit for Vista which comes with a hybrid analog/DVB-T USB stick, a USB IR transceiver & a remote control. The remote works with Win XP MCE 2005 so I was hoping it would work with the Mac but unfortunately the IR transceiver is not recognised by Remote Buddy. Any chance of implementing support for this IR receiver? I believe it's made by Philips also. It's detected as a Pinnacle IR Receiver. I can get the vendorid & productid of it when I get home later tonight.

Here's more info from Pinnacle's website.

http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/as/Products/Consumer+Products/PCTV+Tuners/PCTV+kits+for+Media+Center+Edition/PCTV+Hybrid+Tuner+Kit+for+Windows+Vista.htm

If support can be enabled for this IR transceiver, then this product is a very good buy for Mac users because the above hybrid USB tuner works with Elgato EyeTV. It'll be a cheap way for Mac users to buy both an analog/DVB-T tuner + an IR transceiver and if Remote Buddy supports the MCE remote control in the future, that would be an added bonus.

FYI, Pinnacle also sells a Mac version with the same tuner with Pinnacle's own remote control & ElgatoTV Lite software.

Felix, if you need more info about the IR transceiver, let me know. I'm gonna open it up to have a look inside to see if it's Philips.

thanks.

Hello Eugene,

first of all: sorry, that I didn't reply to your mail, yet. I'm
interested in continuing the discussion here or by mail - whichever
you prefer.

That said, yes, I'd be interested in what System Profiler does
display for this hardware (you should be able to cut and paste from
there).

If the receiver is made by Philips, can you locate a device number on
the bottom side of it (probably starting with OVU as have all Philips
receivers I know of, for now).

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

No problems. You must be very busy with the release of 1.0. Congratulations are in order. I just wished I had known about Remote Buddy earlier. Let's continue here so that others may benefit.

OK, here goes. Info from System Profiler:

PCTV Remote USB:
Version: 0.01
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Pinnacle Systems
Product ID: 0x0225
Serial Number: 7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Vendor ID: 0x2304

The transceiver has a USB port and 2 IR blaster ports, no sticker on the bottom, just some embossed FCC & CE logos & a number 8241-01065-01. That's all. Inside the biggest chip is a CY7C64215-28PVXC. USB controller? It's also got www.pinnaclesys.com and its logo on the PCB. Guess it's not a Philips after all.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you need pictures of the innards.

Eugene...

Hi Eugene,

thanks for the info and congratulations!

From the info given and some research on the web, it doesn't look
like it's a standard IR receiver (= compatible with either the eHome
or eHome 2005 standard) to me, so I'm afraid there'll be no support
for it in Remote Buddy.

Best regards,
Felix

Felix. Thanks for the reply. I'm sad to hear that. I'm still trying without success to look for a RB compatible IR receiver. Do you know if the IR receiver that comes with Hauppauge WinTV-150MCE will work with RB?

The only other IR receiver that I can easily get is the Manta TR-1 from Twisted Melon. Is this supported in 1.0? I recall you had experimental support for it before 1.0.

Despite all this, I'm happily using Remote Buddy with my Wiimote and am very impressed with it but I would really like to get my Apple Remote working. Nevertheless expect to see an order for RB from me in the near future.

Thanks.
