Missing Eject button from Keyspan FR remote
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi,
First of all I think your application is well designed and very functional! You have done a fantastic job.
I'm test driving it at the moment and it looks like I'll be making a purchase!!

I just have one question. I have the Keyspan Front Row remote and I'm trying to map a behavior to the Eject button, but it's not there ?? Actually both the Eject and Sleep buttons are missing.
I have the eject button (hold) mapped to the virtual keyboard, could this be the problem?

Oh I have another question:
Is there a way to get the Virtual keyboard to popup with a mouse gesture (like Expose, move the mouse to the bottom left of the screen and the keyboard appears??)

Thanks...

Hello Ken,

thanks for asking.

Any buttons that are mapped globally are no longer available to
Behaviours - as their function has already been defined to always be
the same. If you want the eject button available elsewhere, set the
global mapping to nothing ("-") for this button in Hardware >
Keyspan ER-RF1.

You can find more info on how the mapping tables play together in the
Online Help.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,
Thanks a million for the reply, I knew it couldn't have been a bug ;)

About the other question I had, here is my idea:

I want to make a touch screen Jukebox centered around a mac mini. I haven't sourced either the mini or the monitor, to use as the touch screen (I want to construct the touch screen myself). I'm testing out all the interfaces and the logistics on my power book before I start to assemble the hardware.

Remote buddy is perfect for this application as I want to be able to control the jukebox from another room.

The touch screen will be mounted on the wall (along with the mini) and I don't intend to have either a keyboard or mouse with the setup. The on screen keyboard with Remote buddy looks fantastic and will suit my needs perfectly. The only thing I need is to be able to activate the keyboard without using the remote.
Is there a way to activate the keyboard with a mouse gesture i.e. I move the courser on the screen (with my finger) to the bottom left of the screen, which causes the keyboard to appear. Could this be possible with the virtual mouse??

Thanks for your help with this Felix...

Regards,
-Ken.

Hi Ken,

thanks for asking.

You can control the virtual keyboard from outside of Remote Buddy
using AppleScript to

- toggle

tell application "Remote Buddy" to virtualkeyboard event "toggle"

- hide

tell application "Remote Buddy" to virtualkeyboard event "hide"

- show

tell application "Remote Buddy" to virtualkeyboard event "show"

the virtual keyboard.

Enter the snippet of your choice into the "Script Editor" (/
Applications/AppleScript), then save it as a program bundle.

Et voilą! You have an app that you can - if I remember correctly -
either assign to the corners of your screen using System Preferences
or at least add to the Dock, your desktop or any app launcher you may
be using.

Best regards,
Felix
