Position of menu after change of display resolution
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi Felix,

the relative position of RemoteBuddy's menu does not change after a change of display reolution occured eg. by plugging a tv into the video out of my iMac. (This model only supports mirroring of screens, and as soon as I plugin the tv set, the resolution automatically changes in order do adapt to the maximum of the cathod ray tube.)
When changing to a smaller resolution, one only sees part of the menu which leads to a certain degree of unusability. It would be nice if the menu always appeared in the centre of the display, regardless its resolution.

Robbe

Hi Robbe,

thanks for reporting this.

I'll try to reproduce this with my good old iBook (the only Mac I
have a video adapter for). As far as I can recall, it worked nicely
on that one the last time I tried.

How long does OS X need on your machine to switch from the normal to
the new resolution?

(background is that - iirc - OS X notifies applications of resolution
changes immediately, but it will not supply them with the new
resolution info right away, but only after it has switched to it -
which makes the whole "adapt position to new resolution"-
functionality a timing problem)

And does closing and reopening the menu rectify the problem?

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

using a stopwatch I timed 7.7 seconds from the moment of plugging in the video adaptor to the moment the display resolution finally settles. A second try took 6.7 seconds.
However, today the position of RemoteBuddy's menu was fine, centred even after the change of resolution. I really don't know why it works today. Before, it never worked.
I am sorry I cannot reproduce the effect at this moment. I'll see to it.

Robbe

Thanks for the info!

The timer was set to check for the new resolution after 2 seconds.
I've now increased this to 10 seconds, so the next version should
cover this long interval now, too. Please let me know if the problem
persists with the next version.

Best regards,
Felix
