Slingplayer - almost works
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I am using the trial version of RB to control my Slingplayer. I could not get Slingplayer to work using the standard defaults that already exist so I watched the video on the Behaviour Construction Kit an got it working...almost.

Normally, when I hit the fast forward button on my SlingPlayer remote, it advances at speed 1x, if I hit it a second time, the speed is 2x, and so on until it achieves a max speed of 16x.

I programmed RB to activate my fast forward button and it works normally the first time. However, when I play and then hit the fast foward button again it begins fast forwarding at 16x. I also have some other problems with pausing. It seems the remote buddy send multiple signals somehow??? Does any one have an idea how I can fix this? If I could fix this I would go ahead and buy the product because it really seems like a great product otherwise.

Thanks,

Tim

Hello Tim,

thanks for sharing.

You are probably letting Remote Buddy send keystrokes at a high repeat
rate.

I'd love to have a look at the Behaviour your built (find it at "Your
Home Folder"/Library/Application Support/Remote Buddy) to see how it
differs from the one that ships with Remote Buddy and integrate what
is needed to make it work with newer versions as well.

Please send it to info (aat) iospirit (doht) com. Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

Thanks for the help. Where do I adjust the repeat rate? I did play around with various settings under Operation, such as

Single key press on button press
Single key press on button release

but nothing seemed to work. I am also not sure about the definition of those. Can I find more detail about those settings in some online documentation anywere.

If you could let me know more about that repeat rate, that would be great.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

thanks for asking.

The repeat rate can only be adjusted for operation modes that include
auto repeats or repeated key presses.

The operation modes determine what key events Remote Buddy should
create for the actual button press, release and the time inbetween.
Single key press always means a "key press followed by an immediate
key release", whereas other modes will only send key press and release
events at the time the button on your remote is also pressed and
released.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Felix

Thanks again...just in case someone searches for Slingplayer info there is a new update available and it now works flawlessly. I posted a question on the sling forum so I will reply to that saying that remote buddy now works with the new version of Sling Player.

What version of SlingPlayer are you using? I'm using version 1.0.3.201 and only have "Channel Down" and RemoteBuddy Menu behaviors working on my Apple Remote when activating the SlingPlayer Behaviours.

I have got the same version running and it works fine. I assume you have installed the most up to date version of remote buddy?

Thank you so much for replying... I did install the latest update for SlingPlayer, but for some reason I can only Channel Down with my Apple Remote.

I guess this must mean there's something weird going on with my Mac? I did try toying with the Application Shortcuts a while back when I tried getting my Apple Remote to work with SlingPlayer without Remote Buddy. I've since deleted all of those custom keyboard shortcuts and even reset the default settings. Anything else I might've forgotten?

Thanks again for your help. I really cannot wait to get Remote Buddy working with SlingPlayer!!! VLC, Itunes, etc they're all great!!!

The detail about custom keyboard shortcut is very important as, if you
didn't reset it back to what factory defaults are, it will not work
with Remote Buddy. Remote Buddy's support for SlingPlayer relies on
correct keyboard shortcuts.

Also, are you using Remote Buddy 1.1? Older releases will not load the
latest version of the SlingPlayer Behaviour update.

What happens, if you press the P and U keys (just the keys, without
any modifiers) in SlingPlayer?

Which localization and keyboard layout are you using?

Still nothing... I even tried removing both SlingPlayer and RemoteBuddy and reinstalling. I've reset my default keyboard shortcuts and that doesn't seem to have done anything. Is there anything specifically that I can check in my Keyboard shortcuts to make sure nothing is set wrong.

The P and U buttons do nothing. Just an exclamation noise when I hit them... According to my SlingPlayer its the "-" and "=" keys that control channeling up and down. I'm not sure what P and U are for...

My keyboard is set to US, I assume...

Thanks for your continuing assistance, Felix!!!

P and U are the SlingPlayer defaults for "Play" and "Pause"
respectively, so the cause of your problems is most definately caused
by altered keyboard shortcuts.

Please try this:

1) Quit SlingPlayer.
2) Move (so you can easily restore them as needed) all com.sling*
files out of

~/Library/Preferences/
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/
~/Library/Application Support/Sling*
/Library/Preferences/
/Library/Preferences/ByHost/

(you may not find settings of SlingPlayer in all of these, but these
are the places to look for them)
(this should reset your settings - unless Sling does something special
with setup)

3) Start and set upSlingPlayer.
4) Press P and U where Play and Pause make sense.

Best regards,
Felix
