App doesn't respond to actors
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I'm trying to create a behavior for Snes9x, a SNES emulator. The application accepts keyboard input, such as left arrow to move left, up arrow to move right and so on. I watched Felix's demo video and tried to create a behavior. It all seemed straightforward and made sense.

However, when I click 'Run Actor' button in Behaviour Construction Kit, it brings Snes9x to the front, but Snes9x does not respond to the emulated keypress I have programmed. This continues to be true even after I have compiled and installed the behavior. I have seen the same thing happen with other game emulators I have attempted.

I don't believe I am doing anything wrong - when I create a behavior for other applications, the key presses come through just fine. The problem seems to be unique to this application.

Is there any known reason why certain apps would allow RemoteBuddy to bring them to front, but not pass through key commands? Or a known issues with Snes9x? Is there any way to correct this issue?

I am really hoping to find a way to use RemoteBuddy (probably via a Wii controller) to be the input device for emulated videogames. Any suggestions in that area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I'm having the exact same problem, but with Nestopia. The same action works fine if I tell it to send the keystroke to a different app (I tested in TextEdit). Does anyone know why these apps aren't responding?

This was the only reason I was going to buy Remote Buddy...

The Remote Desktop APIs in OS X that Remote Buddy is using oddly do
not work for every application. And then, these APIs are the only ones
available for this purpose.

Depending on whether you want to send a keystroke directly to an app
or not, Remote Buddy is using different APIs, which will give you
different results. You may try to check the checkbox to put the app in
front, but disable the checkbox to send the keystroke directly to the
app to get virtually the same effect, but with a different API in use
under the hood.
