Hello Arthur,
please find my comments below.
1) "Annouce Title" in iTunes only plays the announcement sound on
the computer (not through the remote Airtunes speakers as I would
have expected)
Announce Title will use the standard OS X speech feature. That feature
- like any other audio that does not originate in iTunes - will not be
played back on your AirTunes speakers. Apple decided to make audio
playback through AirTunes a feature exclusive to iTunes rather than
allowing any app to use it as speakers. That's a limitation only Apple
can (officially) remove. You may also want to look at Airfoil by Rogue
Amoeba - which, also happens to be supported by Remote Buddy.
2) I would like a way to customise the "launcher" screen to make it
easier to use (i.e have specific coloured buttons for a particular
application, remove buttons that I don't currently need/use (i.e.
EyeTV). For instance it would be great to have a nice coloured
button that says "Airfoil" that when clicked, would let me jump to
all of the Airfoil menu items I have created
Ah, you already use Airfoil then ;-)
3) Similar to #2, would there be any way to create a custom remote
"skin" for different applications. That way, buttons could be
labelled with text or graphics instead of having to remember that
"within Keynote-up (held) shows/accepts slide switcher"
4) For some applications (i.e Airfoil) there are a number of
detailed actions that can be added to a menu. For other aplications
(i.e Keynote) only "behaviours" can be added to a menu and therefore
you cannot add more detailed menu items such as slide forward, back,
jump to last slide, etc. Could this be improved to allow finer
granularity for those apps in "behaviours"
2-4) Thanks for the suggestions.
5) Could there be a way to remove some applications from the
Prefs>Mapping "Behaviours" list? Some of them (such as games) will
never be used with a remote and I like to make lists as short and
concise as possible. I tried unchecking the checkbox beside the apps
in Prefs>Behaviours but they still appear
You can uncheck those you don't need in Prefs > Behaviours. They'll
then disappear from other parts of the program.
6) A user guide would be great
Remote Buddy comes with an Online Help that will give you both a
reference as well as many useful how-tos. Select "Help" from the menu
to view it.
7) Using AJAX remote on a 12" PB 867, clicking on a very large (5k
songs) playlist from within the launcher>music>library section
sometimes locks up Safari. Once I have restarted Safari, clcking on
the "Library" button causes a lockup- I don't even get the list of
playlists. Restarting Remote Buddy seems to clear the problem until
I click on a large playlist again.
All menus in the AJAX Remote save their "state", so that when you
enter a menu again - even after a relogin - you'll enter it where you
left it. If that's a list with 5000 songs in it, that's where you'll
enter it.
On further investigation, if I let Safari churn away for 20 minutes
or so, it DOES show the large playlist. The main reason I want to be
able to choose a large playlist (or the whole music library) is to
set iTunes to shuffle on the
whole library. Could that be an optional setting i.e. "shuffle
across whole music library" instead of just within a given playlist?
Maybe there would be some way to let a user select their whole music
library without having to send all the details to the AJAX remote.
That's a performance problem of Safari, not Remote Buddy. There's
sadly nothing I can do about it. If you want to see a list of 5000
songs, Remote Buddy has to deliver it (which it does just fine - and
quick) and Safari will have to render it (which it sadly doesn't do as
fast).
I recommend to select the Party Shuffle playlist for the purpose you
describe here. It's both short and will also be shuffling over your
entire music library. Plus it gives you a "preview" over upcoming
songs when used with the playlist view of the AJAX Remote.
Best regards,
Felix
