Wii Remote mouse movement via Motion Detector

Hi there.

I searched the forum but was not able to find any info... are there plans to use the motion detector in the wii remote to drive mouse movements?

I noticed that DarwiinRemote is offering this option but I cannot pair with both Remote Buddy and Darwiin together.

If there are no plans for supporting this, what are your suggestions for an IR light source? the thought of having to put a candle under my HDTV and on top of my center speaker is a bit frightening to me.

Thanks in advance,

Miro

I was not able to find any documentation at sourceforge for DarwiinRemote. Have you tested it? Can you in fact use the accelerometers to control cursor motion?

To answer your question about the IR source, I used 3 high intensity LEDs and a resistor from Radio Shack together with an old mobile phone charging power brick to create a very suitable IR source for the wiimote for <$5 US. You may find this LED circuit calculator useful:

Hello Steve,

I have tried it and it works. It's a slim download and is quite clean if you want to give it a shot. It's less sensitive than IR and feels much more like the Virtual Mouse movement of up, left, right, down.

I did some more poking around and as I am not really EE savvy. I think I am going to opt for the Nyko wireless IR bar. I found one locally for $15 dollars. $10 more than the cost of the materials and way prettier than anything I could build.

Now I have to hack my new MacMini to make fat buttons and menus that are much easier to work with!
