Keyspan remote problem
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi,

Since a few updates ago, my keyspan RF stopped being recognized by buddy. The menu button then opens front row, while the regular apple remote's menu button opens remote buddy. One way I found to remedy this is to disconnect the keyspan usb connector and reconnect it.

Does anyone have a more practical solution?

Thanks,

Arjen

Hi and thanks for the report.

Keep in mind the Keyspan RF for Front Row essentially appears like a
USB keyboard to the system.

So it's possible that during boot time, the default keyboard driver
claims the Keyspan RF for FR before Remote Buddy's driver appears on
the scene. On a reinsert, Remote Buddy's driver is there and will win
the matching for the driver.

Here's an easy experiment that'll tell me whether this is the case:

Next time you experiene this, open Remote Buddy's Setup Wizard and
choose to Install or Testdrive the driver. Please let me know if,
after that, the Keyspan RF for FR turns up in your list of remotes -
and whether it prompted you to Reboot.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi,
I've experienced basically the same problem with my Keyspan ER-RF1 remote. I've defined a custom behaviour which works without any problems. After a restart of Leopard (10.5.2) the behaviour somehow changed and "Front Row" appears on the screen.

If I do the following actions I can reactivate my behviour, but I'm not satified with that.

- unplug/plug the USB-Stick
- reinstall/reload Remote Buddy driver

Is there a better workarround for that? For example starting an AppleScript on startup which reloads (kextload/kextunload) the driver in the background or deactivates the default Apple keyboard driver?

Any help would be very recommended, because this application should be a part of a customer solution.

Best Regards, Steffen

This problem has already been addressed. Please update to the latest
version 1.8.8.

To make sure you don't use a mish-mash of a previous version and
1.8.8, quit and delete Remote Buddy.app, empty the trash, then
download the latest version fresh from the website and use that
version. Please also check your computer for copies / duplicates of
older versions and remove them to make sure they don't get started
instead of the latest version.

Hi Felix,
thank you for your quick answer. I already made a clean installation of latest version 1.8.8, but still run into this problem.

Please send me a System Profile to info@iospirit.com prior to a plug/
replug or uninstall, when the problem occurs.

Also, if you are in a text editor: do the remote control buttons
change the position of the cursor?

While doing a code audit of the KS RF driver, I found something that
could pose a problem in rare cases. Please update to 1.8.9 and see
whether it solves the problem.
