menu key on keyboard?
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
OK, I am embarrassed asking, as a long time mac user and software devloper, but I can't seem to find the answer. I have purchased buddy and love it for the interactivity with my iphone.

I can hit menu from the ajax remote, and the buddy menu comes up on my new mac pro. I don't have an apple remote with this mac. What is the equivalent of "menu" on the keyboard? cmd-esc just brings up front row. I disable that in settings-keyboard, and then it does nothing. So how do I pop up the buddy menu with my keyboard?

Thanks in advance,

Sorry if I missed the answer in the forums, but couldn't find.

Thanks for asking.

The Hotkey Remote is what you are looking for. It allows you to use
key combinations instead of a remote control, but there are some
limitations due to the way OS X handles emulated keyboard events and
hotkeys (=> they can overlap and thus the hotkey remote can't be used
for many but not for every program).

Please give the documentation on the Hotkey Remote a read (=> choose
"Help" from Remote Buddy's pulldown menu at the top of the screen) for
more info.

Hello...

I have a similar problem, and I don't think the reply actually answered the question. New to Remote Buddy, but I don't recognize the up-arrow-bar keyboard equivalent symbol on the Hotkey screen to invoke the Menu command. I have tried all combinations.

It is also not clear how to remap the keyboard keys under the menu. The help does not explain this either.

On the Mac, the ^ symbol is the symbol for the Ctrl modifier key.
You'll also find it in the pulldown menus of Mac applications.

By default, the HotKey-Remote is available under Ctrl+Alt+NumPad
(2/4/5/6/8/Return). If your Mac doesn't have a numeric keypad, you can
also change these hotkeys to other combinations at RB Prefs > Hardware

HotKey Remote.

Hi Felix,

I follow the instructions but hotkey commands do not change.

Instructions simply say to click on the table & then press the desired keys - they do not refer to the text box or check boxes below the table.

I tried many combinations - nothing happened.

I would like a key set suited to my Macbook pro keyboard.

Thanks.

This doesn't work for me either Felix. You can select a line in the list but clicking/double-clicking doesn't make it editable, and trying to use the fields at the bottom of the screen nothing happens.

In my case I was just looking for a hotkey to open the RB menu, and I've been able to use the default one (Ctrl-Alt-Enter) for my needs. It would be better if this could be customised.

Thanks for your feedback!

The configuration interface of the Hotkey Remote seems to have been broken by Snow Leopard. The next release will address this.
