can't change display resolutions consistently

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hello,
I love Remote Buddy! I've been able to do everything I've wanted to do with my remote (harmony) except for this one expection:

When I try to change between my 3 display resolutions, it usually doesn't work. I use the following three resolutions:
- 1024 x 768 (60hz)
- 800 x 600 (60hz)
- 1250 x 686 (60hz, custom resolution made with Screen Res X)

I can see all three options in my remote buddy menu, but here's what happens when I try to select them:

• If I'm using 1024 x 768, I can only switch to 1250 x 686.

• If I'm using 800 x 600, I can only switch to 1250 x 686.

• If I'm using 1250 x 686, I can't switch to either other resolution.

Now, this is only a problem from the Remote Buddy menu. Everything works fine from display preferences.

OKAY, so I just solved this problem as writing this, so I might as well post in case someone else has the same problem.

I went back into Remote Buddy: Menu: The menu profile where I added the display resolutions: deleted 800 x 600 & 1024 x 768 and re-added from the "item library" display resolutions in the left column, now all works fine.

Not sure why these did work at one point and stopped, or if I'll have to remove and re-add again in the future. If I do, I'll definitely come back to this post.

Hello Brian,

the screen resolution items encapsulate internal system parameters.

Thus, if your display or a detail of the operating system in that area
changes, so will the effect of the encapsulated parameters.

While I haven't checked, I think it's quite possible that there have
been changes in Leopard in general or in 10.5.2 specifically.

And while the item library items (or in System > Screens) are always
generated freshly from your current setup, once you put such an item
in a customized menu, a snapshot of the parameters will be used and -
unlike the freshly generated ones - can become outdated as system
internals change.

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz
