Remote Buddy hangs with ajax remote

I use the ajax remote to display the information on what song is currently playing on iTunes. Works fine for some time and then remote buddy almost always hangs. I have to force quit the application.

It doesn't appear to the related to a specific song or album, I have a huge library. There is no specific amount of time needed for the application to hang. Sometime it runs for hours, sometimes just a few minutes.

Next time it happens I'll post here the crash information when I force quit the application.

How can I enable/disable the display of information on the currently played iTunes® title? (FAQ015E0167)
You can enable/disable this functionality at "Preferences > Behaviours > iTunes® > Options". You can also set the duration of the display there.

Hardware - Apple® Remote

After uninstalling/quitting Remote Buddy, my Mac® no longer reacts to the Apple® Remote. (FAQ015E0241)
To enable you to use all capabilities of the IR Receiver of your Mac®, Remote Buddy is using its own driver. In contrast, all other applications with integrated Apple® Remote support usually use the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

As long as you're running Remote Buddy, Remote Buddy and its driver are responsible for turning the received button presses into actions. As soon as you quit Remote Buddy, this task is again handled by the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

If other applications don't use the interface to the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem correctly, this can lead to the effect that nothing happens when you press a button on your Apple® Remote. For as long as you're running Remote Buddy, issues like this are covered by Remote Buddy and it's driver and are therefore not visible to you. However, as soon as you quit Remote Buddy, the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem is back in control and any issues caused in it by other applications become visible.

Therefore Remote Buddy is neither the cause of the issue nor is it responsible for it. Instead, the cause of the issue exists independently of Remote Buddy. It's located elsewhere and can also only be solved there.

Although our products can't cause any such issues, we're regularly contacted about such issues and asked for help. In order to make locating and fixing the cause of such issues as easy and efficient as possible, we've developed a free diagnostics tool: Remote Control Diagnostics. It can locate issues with a single click and will provide you with information about the issue as well as with instructions on how you can fix it.

Hardware - iPhone™ / iPod® touch / AJAX Remote

Which devices and browsers are currently officially supported? (FAQ015E0190)
Currently, these browsers are officially supported by the AJAX Remote:
- Safari® on iPhone™ with OS 3.0 or later
- Safari® on iPod® Touch with OS 3.0 or later
- Safari® 4 or later
The AJAX Remote is using the latest web standards (like CSS3, which is often only supported sufficiently by Safari®) to utilize the available bandwidth and CPU power efficiently.

IMPORTANT: to use the AJAX Remote, your setup needs to meet all of the AJAX Remote requirements!

Please send it to info@iospirit.com and please also attach your
"iTunes Library" file found in ~/Music/iTunes/.

You can also use http://www.picturearena.com/upload/ to send me huge
files (everything that's > 10 MB in total).

Do you run iTunes 7.6.1 or later by any chance?

I used picturearena for the 2 files.

I have iTunes 7.6.2 but this behavior has not appeared with a recent update.

In the log I see that you have an InputManager installed that hooks
into Remote Buddy:

/Library/InputManagers/Menu Extra Enabler/Menu Extra Enabler.bundle

You are running Leopard and then there's this bit from the authors of
Menu Extra Enabler:

"Menu Extra Enabler currently does not work on Mac OS X 10.5." [http://unsanity.com/mee
]

Please uninstall the Input Manager and other haxies you may have
installed on your system, reboot and try to reproduce the problem you
are experiencing.

With Input Managers and haxies installed, I'm afraid I can't offer any
support as they modify how the system behaves and usually add code and/
or modify internals of running applications.

I don't know how the menu extra enabler got installed, probably from a 3rd party application because I didn't install it explicitly. Anyway, I removed the Menu Extra Enabler.bundle file and rebooted.

And... no luck! It hung again last night. I sent the crash log to info@iospirit.com.

Thanks for sending the hang log.

At which occasion does it hang? Do you perform any action at that
point or do you just let it run and poll new cover art, etc.?

Yes, I just let it go and after a while Safari throws an error because the remote buddy server stopped responding.

The cover art doesn't have to change either. I can play an entire album and it will stop responding at some random moment.

Thanks for the info. The highly complex and rarely apparant timing/
multithreading bug I discovered and fixed a couple of days ago had
exactly the same symptoms.

Please let me know, if you still experience the problem with the next
version.
