Trial Version - Expire problem?
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi,

I have been testing the Remote Buddy trial last days. Yesterday my trial period ended so I uninstalled the application following the instructions I found in the faq section.

The problem is that now I can't control Plex with my apple remote as before. When I press up or down it simply tries to change the volume (?), "Menu" brings me FrontRow, and other buttons simply don't work.

I have unpaired and paired the remote control, tried to install again the demo of Remote Buddy, then deleting it with "Appdelete", tried with different versions of Plex (even with the old OSXMBC), restarted the computer, but no luck... :(

Anything I can try? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for asking.

You probably didn't uninstall Remote Buddy's driver. You can find
instructions on how to manually remove it in the FAQ.

It would be wrong to say, that Remote Buddy is causing a problem here,
though, nor is it related to the end of the trial phase:

Right now, Plex built-in Apple Remote support makes some assumptions
on HID system internals that can easily lead to it not reacting to
Apple Remote events correctly - or at all. That's not particularly
Remote Buddy's fault or the fault of its driver - which work correctly
and in harmony with all other software supporting the Apple Remote
direclty - including OS X, iAlertU, etc. It's a result of Plex' built-
in support making these assumptions on the HID system internals.

Since this affects the user experience of Remote Buddy users, I've
gotten in touch with the Plex team about this just yesterday and am
currently writing up some sample code for them that should be of help
to them in making their Apple Remote support rock-solid and more
future-proof, as it is then no longer based on assumptions on HID
system internals that are prone to be changed by Apple sooner or later
as OS X evolves.

Hello Felix,

Thank you for your kind and fast answer.
The only thing I found in the faq about uninstalling Remote Buddy components is the question #FAQ015E0188. I tried that already and didn't have sucess :( Maybe I have to look elsewhere?

Sorry to bug you as I understand it's not a problem with your program and thanks again.

Thanks for asking.

Remote Buddy does not make any changes to the OS install itself, so
I'm afraid that once you have uninstalled all components as outlined
in the FAQ015E0188 and rebooted, there's nothing that would be
different from before installing Remote Buddy.

What you may find useful, though, is the list of general error sources
with the Apple Remote in FAQ015E0222 that do apply regardless of
whether or not you have Remote Buddy installed or ever had it installed.

Beyond that, please turn to the Plex team for help and assistance as
it can only be a Plex-internal issue then and I naturally don't
overlook that project as well as they do.

Thanks again Felix. I'll try following the faq question you mentioned and see what happens.
