getting Remote Buddy to work with Apple Remote
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Until now I've used the AJAX remote function exclusively with Remote Buddy because I didn't have a Mac with built-in IR. Now I have a MacBook Pro and would like to use Remote Buddy with the Apple Remote. However, when I press the menu button on the Apple Remote, Front Row starts instead of Remote Buddy. Do I have to have the kernel extension installed for Remote Buddy to work with the Apple Remote? I thought it was just to avoid conflicts and add a few features.

Thanks for asking.

The installation of the driver is required for all USB and internal
receivers as well as all Bluetooth remotes. In order for Remote Buddy
to be able to receive events from the Apple IR receiver, you need to
have the Remote Buddy driver installed.

I'm a little afraid of third-party kernel extensions because they work at such a low level. I'm not going to experience any kernel panics with the Remote Buddy kernel extension loaded, am I?

Remote Buddy's driver is very mature. You would be the very first to
report a kernel panic with the current version of the driver.
