Boxee / Plex Not Working After Update
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I was pleased to see improved support for Boxee and Plex in the new update. However, after updating, I am unable to do ANYTHING with these two programs. I am using a BD remote. I am able to do other things with Remote Buddy, but when I open these programs, I can't navigate or select anything.

The new Remote Buddy release contains no changes with regards to Plex
support.

Regarding Boxee, please make sure you are running the latest version.
If the problem persists, please

1) check your mapping settings at Remote Buddy > Prefs > Mapping >
Boxee and consider resetting them to the defaults.

2) For Remote Buddy to work with Boxee, event client support needs to
be enabled. It is enabled in Boxee by default. In early releases, you
could (IIRC) still turn off event client support in Boxee's
preferences. That option is no longer exposed in the user interface.
But if you turned it off back then, chances are high it still is today.

With Boxee running, enter this command in Terminal.app to get a list
of UDP ports Boxee is using:

lsof | grep Boxee | grep UDP

If Event Client support is enabled, an UDP port in the 9770-9780 range
should be listed. I, for example, get this:

...
Boxee 41295 felix 12u IPv4 0xee0c7b0 0t0 UDP
localhost:9770
...

All in all, this must definately be a configuration issue or an issue
with your setup, as I have not gotten other reports of problems nor
can I reproduce them.

Regarding Plex:
No changes were made with regards to Plex. Plex-support is identical
to previous versions and only sends keystrokes, not UDP-events (like
the new plugins for Boxee and XBMC). Unless your copy of Plex has
stopped to react to keystrokes, it should work just fine. Please try
to use Plex with your keyboard and let me know the result.

Regarding Boxee:
Are you using Little Snitch or any other firewall software? If yes,
please try deactivating it.

Regarding configuration issues:
1) Outdated/modified application support files (in ~/Library/
Application Support/<media center of your choice>/) can also be a
source of problems - not so much for Remote Buddy, but for the media
center software itself. You may want to try to move these to a backup
location and let the applications rebuild them cleanly from scratch.
The media center software in question should not be running at the
time you move any of the files.

2) You may also want to try to reset your Remote Buddy settings to
their defaults by quitting Remote Buddy, moving all files matching
~/Library/Preferences/com.iospirit.remotebuddy.*.plist
to a backup location, then starting Remote Buddy again.

If none of this helps, please provide me with
1) your Remote Buddy settings (=> to the info-email-address you can
find on the Imprint page).
2) an archived copy of the respective ~/Library/Application Support/
<media center of your choice>/ folder (=> to the same email address)
3) a system profile of your system saved with System Profiler.app (=>
to the same email address)

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz
