Remote Buddy, Apple Remote and Plex interactions
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I've found a few similar threads on the forums, but nothing recent that seemed to be describing my same problem, so here goes:

Problem one:

In Plex, I have disabled the internal Apple Remote (AR) support and am using Remote Buddy (RB) to control it.

I've customised the RB behaviours in the following ways:

- RB activates Plex when I hold the menu button.
- I added two actions to the Plex behaviour:
- Hold plus I set to "Toggle fullscreen"
- Hold minus I set to "Home"
These two buttons had no actions associated in the default configuration.

Now when I use Plex the plus and minus buttons no longer function. The hold plus and hold minus buttons work as expected.

I've been able to work around this problem by changing the plus and minus buttons to use cursor keystrokes. (I also tried Plex's Up and Down actions, which also worked but failed to trigger the interface sounds in Plex.)

I am, for the moment, completely happy with this solution, but thought you should be made aware of the issue, if you aren't already.

Problem two is more annoying:

Once I've activated Plex, if I then quit using the Plex window's close button or via Plex's own shutdown menu, RB stops responding.

I tried setting the hold minus button to Command-Q but the problem remained. So I set hold minus to bring up the RB menu. If I then use RB's 'Quit' command to exit, this is the only way I've found to exit Plex without losing access to RB as well.

Thanks for asking.

Regarding your questions:

1) There was a bug in the very first release of the UDP-based Plex
Behaviour, that lead to this problem. It has been fixed for some time
now, already, though. Are you sure you are using the latest version of
Remote Buddy?

2) There was a bug in Plex some time ago, that lead exactly to this
problem. Basically, Plex closes its window, but doesn't actually quit.
It resurfaced in a recent release of Plex (0.7.14 IIRC) and was
supposed to be fixed again by Plex 0.7.15 (again, IIRC). This was also
discussed on the Plex forum. Which version of Plex are you using?

Thanks for the reply Felix. Regarding your questions:

1. I am using v1.12 of Remote Buddy.
2. I am using the most recent release of Plex - v0.8.0.

Thanks for the info.

Just checked the Plex website and saw that this was listed as bugfix
in Plex 0.8.1:

-- cut --
[..]
- FIX: Hang on exit (when Media Server Scrobbler was enabled).
[..]
-- cut --

Does the problem you have disappear after upgrading to Plex 0.8.1?

Best regards,
