Incomplete Context Menu Options
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
It would be nice if in the context menu I could setup custom key commands. For example, with Quicktime I'd like to set up menu 5 menu items corresponding to CMD+0-4 to change the screen dimensions but there's no way to do this.

Quicktime Player only lists Toggle Fullscreen, System Volume Slider and Quicktime volume with three other options below that.

An option to enter custom key commands or Apple Scripts for the context menu would be ideal. This way, lesser used but VITAL commands may be accessed via the Apple remote or any other peripheral.

FYI, I just started the 30 day trial. This is the first limitation I've found.

Thanks for asking.

You can do this, actually.

You can create your own custom actions at Prefs > Mapping > QuickTime
Player > "Select 'Custom Actions..' from the popup". Actions defined
there are can not only be mapped to buttons, but they also become
available as menu items.

Nope, I have no menu items available. I can only change the key mappings. The menu items do not appear In Prefs > Menu > Quicktime Player.

I even looked through most of the bottom three trees. Custom key commands are only accessible via Prefs > Mapping.

If I'm missing a step let me know. Clicking the Plus sign under the "menu layout" pane does nothing. As I understand, Items are added from the item library pane.

Sorry, I forgot a little detail:

You also need to check the checkbox "Action available globally and for
context menu" in the Custom Action Editor for those actions you want
to have available at Prefs > Menu in the Item Library under Actions >
QuickTime Player > ..

HA! I FIGURED IT OUT! For the custom actions you have to check "Action available globally..."

Now it shows up in the menu. Awesome. Now I can map CMD+0-5 for the different quicktime view settings.

In case you're curious, I'm trying out Remote Buddy since controllermate is unable to customize the apple remote WITHOUT suppressing the default input. So for example if I map something to volume up the volume will always go up NO MATTER WHAT. Remote buddy works as advertised.

Most likely I'll purchase this after the evaluation period. I also paid for controllermate. It's crazy, ever since I got this macbook I've been happily paying for software. I still have a PC, mind you, I don't think of myself as a "Switcher." But there's something about how people post their Mac software that makes me happy to buy it. I think it's the price points. Mac software is typically cheaper. I also love that the demo is uncrippled.

See you in 30 days. :)
