POP up Survey
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
With advertising getting more intrusive and annoying in our everyday lives, with companies placing you on SPAM lists just because you do a little business with them. Imagine my complete irritation this morning upon seeing a POPUP survey window from Remote Buddy!!!!

WTF are you people thinking??? You have some idiot in your marketing department that really thinks after I pay for your software that I want it popping up crap all over the place???? Who the hell do you think you people are putting this crap on my computer?? I enabled updates, not pop-up advertising shit.

Aside from it being annoying, it's completely unethical. Should I ever detect any attempt by iospirit to do anything like this again, it will be the LAST time I ever spend any money with your company.

This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

Please let's stick to the facts:

1) This isn't advertising. If you think it is advertising, then please
point out what you think the survey is advertising for and what makes
you believe the survey is an advertisement. Since the survey window
shows up only once, here's a screenshot of it for your convenience:

2) We're politely asking for your opinion. Why? Because we want to get
a better picture of the needs of our customers. Using that knowledge,
we then know what areas users want to see improvements in the most.
What area is and is not important to our users. Whether compatibility
with older OS versions is important to our users or not. Whether we
should put our main focus on more functionality for Apple Remote, Wii
Remote, Sony BD Remote or iPhone users. And this list goes on and on.

3) Many other companies transmit statistical data about the system
configuration of their customers with their Online Updater without
explicitly informing you. We don't do that. We respect the privacy of
our customers. It's a top priority. And we would never transmit such
data without the *explicit* consent of our customers. As a
consequence, we simply do not know what OS version and hardware our
customers are using Remote Buddy on. Since these, however, are very
important pieces of information when planning the future direction of
development, the only way to obtain it is to kindly ask our users for
their opinion.

In essence, it all comes down to this:

Our customers are important to us and we want them to have a voice in
important decisions that affect them. We want to make sure we invest
our time to their benefit and in their best interest. But in order to
be able to do that, we have to know what the best interest of our
customers is and on which area(s) we'll have to focus to create the
biggest benefit for them. Since we don't collect data on our customers
and respect their privacy, the only way to get to know the interest of
our customers is to kindly ask them. And if you don't want to answer,
that's fine. You simply close the window and that's it. One click.

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz

P.S.: The idea of an in-app survey isn't new. The Mac OS X Installer
is asking similiar questions. But unlike the Quick Survey in Remote
Buddy, answering them is mandatory - there is no "Cancel" button.
