Remote Buddy keeps on crashing
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi there,

first of all, I m testing your product right now.

It looks great, if working. The downside, it crashes all the time. Every 60 seconds the application is gone and conection apparently lost.
That bothers me. I m using the latest version of remote buddy, the latest version of MAC OS X on a mac mini.
A wireles keysonic keypad with trackpad is used to type. if that matters.

secondly the search function in the forum is a little weak. I wasn t able to search. The result remains at 23 pages of threads, no matter what syntax I used for searching. You d better improve this quickly. So people do not ask the same questions all over again ;-)

Question 1
AJAX remote surface: the movie bib button is linked to a specific folder. I only use PLEX for video on my macmini (mediacenter). So it would be awesome to launch plex directly with that button. Am I able to reconfigure the button movie bib on the AJAX remote surface ?

Question 2
AJAX remote surface: is it possible to add a button which launches DVD player directly from that surface ? Can I reconfigure ?

Question 3
Is it possible to create a surface of buttons (see snatch) and configure those with actions. e.g. plex in a different design. Distinguish between fast forward and track to track with two different buttons ?

Question 4
I d like to execute some apple scripts, e.g. dim the lights in my appartments. Again the question, how do I design a different button for AJAX and than a differnt desgin for the remote buttons. ITs a little tricky to always and only control everything with the "ipod control visuals" :)

Thanks

Thanks for asking.

No crash bugs are currently known, so if Remote Buddy crashes on your
machine, any crash log you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Usually, you can find these at ~/Library/CrashReporter/

We recently had a complete site relaunch and the huge changes under
the hood seem to have exposed a few bugs in the forum code that
previously had no negative effect. Thanks for reporting! I fixed it
right away.

Regarding your questions:

1) + 2) Right now, the Launcher can't be customized and all buttons in
the Launcher lead to the same functionality everwhere.

3) + 4) You can create your own, custom actions by selecting "Custom
actions.." in the action popup at Prefs > Mapping - or - alternatively
define your own actions in the Behaviour Construction Kit (don't
forget to check the "Global" checkbox for the actions you create there
and they become available under Actions > "Miscellaneous"). For less
frequently used actions, you can put them either in the context menu
of the respective application - or - if you checked the "Global"
checkbox for the respective action - anywhere in Remote Buddy's menu,
which, in turn is accessible either by the "Menu" button in the remote
control module. Or directly via the "Menu" module.

Step by step instructions for creating both custom actions or global
actions via the BCK can be found at these places:
http://helpbooks.iospirit.net/remotebuddy/english/howto.html#ExecuteAppleScript
http://helpbooks.iospirit.net/remotebuddy/english/howto.html#AddGlobalAction

Regarding the "ipod control visuals": please tap the "Gesture" button
at the top of the Remote module to switch to the new Gesture mode.
It's much more intuitive and you don't have to look on the screen to
control your apps.

I hope these answers were of help to you. If possible, please send in
the crash logs of the crashes you were experiencing. If there's a
crash bug, I'm always eager to identify and fix it as soon as possible.

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz
