Feature request: auto-highlight in Mapping display?
View

I wonder if it would be possible in the Mapping screen to have the command in the list highlight when that command is received from a remote? This would make it much easier to configure programmable remotes such as the Harmony remote to use multiple virtual Apple remotes.

Programming the Harmony remote is easy once you have this list :)

Yes, I have the list of the Plex Harmony assignments and have used it. But it still means going through the list, looking each command up, and scrolling through the list of Apple remotes. It is a lengthy, error-prone process, and you have to do this for every program.

It would be a lot easier and faster if I could simply point the remote at my Mini, hit each button in turn, have the corresponding Apple Remote command highlight on the screen, and then select the behavior that I want for that button in that particular program.

Thanks for your feedback.

I've added it to the idea pool.

Felix,

Have you given any more thought to getting Logitech to set up a "Remote Buddy" device in the Harmony database that emulates multiple Apple remotes, and directly supporting it in the mapping screen? I remember that was something that some of us Plex users had suggested a while back. That would also make mapping a lot easier.

I second this. Googling forums to find the list is kind of obscure. When I point a remote at the computer that is or mimics an Apple Remote, it would be much more helpful to see what Remote Buddy thinks its receiving. And the most intuitive way I could think of is to highlight the relevant button in the Mapping panel and also show the Remote ID.

Thanks for asking.

As much as I'd like to share my status on this with you, I've made the
general decision to no longer pre-announce anything. Time schedules
change, as does the market and development priorities. The development
of particular features can take longer (sometimes much longer) than
expected or transform into something entirely new. For these reasons,
pre-announcements are bound to raise false expectations and always
lead to disappointments with at least a few people. This is something
I'd like to avoid. Therefore, I prefer to announce features only the
day they are actually available to the general public.

As far as the Remote ID is concerned, RB is already doing this. When
you go to Prefs > Hardware > Built-In Receiver and have "Support for
multiple remotes" enabled, Remote Buddy always highlights the entry of
the corresponding remote when you press a button.

For anyone else who's dealing with trying to figure out multiple remotes, here's how I did the detective work for all the buttons the Plex guys set up. I started with a completely clean Remote Buddy setup, went into the Global mapping and set up/down/left/right to move the mouse cursor in the appropriate direction, set menu to turn the volume up, and set play to turn the volume down. I then went to the multiple remote setup screen and started pressing buttons on the Harmony. Remote Buddy would highlight the remote ID, and I could tell by the mouse cursor movements or the volume control display which button press was being received. It only took a few minutes to figure out all the buttons that way.
