New Aluminum Apple Remote (October 09)
View

Hey,

looks like the new Aluminum Remote has one additional button...

The PLAY/PAUSE and MENU buttons are now separated below the click wheel. But the center of the wheel is still clickable to select an item or to confirm a selection.

I'm wondering if that means, that we now can have an additional button with remote buddy?

Thanks for asking.

From the few official pictures of the Aluminium Apple Remote in
Apple's Online Store, it doesn't look like there's a new, additional
button. To me, it looks like they've simply moved down the play/pause
button from the center into a new line with the Menu button. The
photos also make me believe that the center of the navigation buttons
is no longer clickable, so that the new Apple Remote, like the old
one, has just six buttons - they're just rearranged.

That said, I didn't get a chance to buy a new Aluminium Apple Remote
just yet and it looks like Apple won't make it available for purchase
for a few additional weeks. Until then, I can only talk about my
observations, not about first hand experience.

If you managed to get access to one of the new Aluminium Apple
Remotes, please let me know.

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz

Q&A on apple.com (http://store.apple.com/us/questions/product/MC377LL/A?mco=MTM0MzEzNjQ) says that the middle button still is a real button to press.

I've ordered three of them, they should arrive the next week. Let's hope...;)

Thanks for the link.

I took a look at the Q&A. It appears to be answered by users and not
Apple staff. I also found it contains wrong information (there's one
Q&A saying the Apple Remote would work with the Mac Pro - which is
incorrect, the Mac Pro lacks the necessary IR receiver). So I'd take
answers from this Q&A with a big grain of salt - especially since I
haven't heard of any aluminium Apple Remote having been spotted in the
wild.

I, too, have purchased an aluminium Apple Remote and await delivery in
what Apple says will be a couple of weeks. If you receive yours next
week already, your feedback and experience with the new model would be
greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz

Hi Felix,

it would be very nice, if you could integrate a function to change the style of the displayed Apple Remote (old, white one vs. new aluminum one) into the next version of Remote Buddy!

Thank you very much!

This is one great peace of software - keep on improving it, i love it!

Kind regards,
Felix M.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I definately intend to do this, but I'll have to wait until I have one
in my hands to take measure and construct it as a vector drawing for
use in Remote Buddy. Judging by what my Apple Store account tells me,
this can still be several weeks away :-/

Hey again,

the question of the additional button on the new aluminum remote has finally been answered:
In the yesterdays iLounge review (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/apple-remote-2009/) it has been confirmed, that there is an additional button (select) in the center of the arrow buttons!

I hope it will be used wisely in new Remote Buddy functions and hope to see an update, soon ;)

Thank you very much for Remote Buddy!

Kind regards,
Felix M.

I would love it if these two buttons were separately editable too, is this possible?
