No EyeTV Menu any more ....
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hello Felix,

after being annoyed so often by Update recommendations I decided to switch
Versions in EyeTV and RemoteBuddy from

EyeTV 3.0.3 to 3.2.1
RB 1.11.5 to 1.15

After that anything seems to work but then I recognized that in EyeTV with
a long press of the menu key the menu no longer appears. (Nothing happens).
With the old versions everything works.

The Behaviour of EyeTV, Key "Menu (long)" is (and keeps after Update) "virtuell keypress menu (long)"

Couldn't find anything about this issue.
Perhaps you can help

Thanks in advance !

Regards
Andree

Thanks for asking.

If you're on OS X 10.6.2: this OS release contains a new HID descriptor for the Apple Remote, that EyeTV currently doesn't support. It will therefore not understand commands issued through the Remote Buddy Virtual Remote. You can put Remote Buddy's Virtual Remote into a "Leopard Compatibility Mode", so it provides the old HID descriptor of OS releases prior to OS 10.6.2 to applications.

This mode currently can't be enabled directly in Remote Buddy, but only through the Candelair preferences pane available at:
http://www.iospirit.com/labs/candelair/

Alternatively, you could also use Remote Buddy's built-in EyeTV support and use the default mapping for EyeTV.

Hello Felix,

thanks for your reply.

I missed to mention that I'm on Leopard still. Not 10.6.2.

Any idea in that case ?

I am having a similar issue.

I think Eye TV 3.2.1 and RB 1.15.1 are not compatible.

I am using the Hybrid receiver from Eye TV Remote.

I am unable to access the RB menu...

This is from the Compatibility matrix:

"EyeTV Hybrid (2008) AppleŽ Remote, EyeTV Remote, TerraTec Black, TerraTec Gray (3.0.4)"

Looks like I need to wait for RB to come out with an update.

Thanks,

Justin

Thanks for the info.

It's possible that EyeTV ignores remote control input from the Apple IR Receiver (or an emulation of it - like the Virtual Remote of RB) when it also receives them over an IR receiver built-in to EyeTV receiver hardware.

I recommend using EyeTV with the default mapping instead of "passing through" the remote control events via the Virtual Remote.

Sorry, I missed your second post.

The EyeTV Hybrid should work just fine. If iTunes is the frontmost, active application, can you control playback with the six buttons listed at
http://www.iospirit.com/products/remotebuddy/hardware/#eyetvbundledremotes ?

Hi Felix,

Thanks for the response.

I can get RB to recognize the Eye TV remote.

See screen shot here: http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/5885/menug.jpg

However when I do this the Eye TV remote will not respond to input in any application, not even Eye TV.

I am also not able to access the RB menu.

I followed these instructions:

---

Setup

No setup is needed. When both EyeTV and Remote Buddy are running at the same time, the first press of a button on a supported remote control (and received via a compatible EyeTV receiver) automatically adds it to Remote Buddy. You'll have to press a button on the remote again when you start EyeTV again the next time.

---

And based on the "Compatibility matrix" it looks like the most current build of Eye TV is not supported.
It indicates 3.0.4 and I am using 3.2.1(5721).

I may not be understanding this correctly.

Thanks again.

Justin

Hello Felix,

just to complete the original thread:

My problem is solved. I changed the Action of the
"Menu (long)" - Key from "Virtual Keypress Menu(long)"
to "Menu on/off" and after that it works as desired.

Thanks so far

@Justin:

I recommend you open a new thread, because the title in here
does not reflect your issue and others, who have a similar issue,
like you wouldn't read in here.
