must always "pair new remote control" in order to pair wiimote
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I have a wii remote that will only pair with remote buddy if I select "pair new remote control" in the hardware menu each and every time I want to re-pair the remote. Otherwise, just pressing the 1&2 buttons, even though the Bluetooth Reciever is on (green), will not pair the remote. The "Search for paired remotes on startup" option is checked.

Here is the reply I received when I tried to attach the screenshot of the bluetooth settings:

Thanks for the screenshot.

The problem is caused by your selection of the option

"Stop searching for paired remotes after max 1 minutes"

This means that Remote Buddy stops searching for your Wii Remote one minute after it was launched, which leads to the observed result. Please bring this option back to its default (not checked) to solve the problem.

Hi Felix,

Thanks for your help. That fixed the problem. Odd, I thought having that box checked was the default, as I don't ever remember checking it myself. I suppose there's some good reason for telling Remote Buddy _not_ to look for bluetooth, so I won't ask.

There is, but its not really a Remote Buddy specific issue: Bluetooth and Wireless LANs (Wi-Fi) use the same 2,4 GHz band and can physically interfere with one another and reduce the quality of the connection. It rarely happens at a noticeable extent, but it can happen. By now, Apple also acknowledges this physical phenomen in its support knowledge base.

So, in some usage scenarios, it's useful to limit Bluetooth traffic to a small timeframe (for example if you only rarely use your Wii Remote). That's why this option exists.
