RB's menu function works fine however, when I go into a playlist, artist, song, album, etc., and press play or silver enter button, it does not play.

Thanks for asking.

RB's menu function works fine however, when I go into a playlist, artist, song, album, etc., and press play or silver enter button, it does not play.

Do you mean that selecting an item in the iTunes application itself, then using the play button on your remote does not work?

And that, if you start playback from Remote Buddy's own menu, it works fine?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Actually, the opposite. RB menu will not start playback.

Thanks for the clarification.

Have you installed the iTunes 11 Compatibility Update via Remote Buddy's built-in Online Updater?

I believe I accidentally skipped it. I followed the steps on the related topic to reset it. Didn't work. When I put it in terminal, it say:

Thanks for the info.

An updated version of Remote Buddy that incorporates the iTunes 11 compatibility update (which works around bugs in iTunes 11 as far as technically possible/feasible) is also available for download since the update has been made available through the Online Updater.

You can make sure that you're using the latest version of Remote Buddy and the iTunes 11 Compatibility Update by visiting this page (download should start automatically) and following the instructions for replacing an existing copy:

Are you running iTunes 11 or iTunes 11.0.1? The latter introduced new bugs that I'm currently looking into.

Apart from the iTunes version, please provide me with a bit more detail about how I could reproduce the bug. If you could outline the "path" through the menu, like f.ex. "iTunes Behaviour > Music Library > Albums > Sunday 8 PM > The Garden" and also send me a screenshot of iTunes at the time that playback fails (=> to info@iospirit.com), that would probably already help me a lot.

Also, are you using iTunes Match?
Can you search for, select and play back the same track(s) directly in iTunes?

Felix Schwarz

An updated Behaviour that improves compatibility with iTunes 11.0.1 is now available via Remote Buddy's Online Updater. I've also tested it with iTunes Match.

Does this new update solve your issues?

Thanks for the info.

Did you restart RB after installing the update as suggested by the installer? (the changes won't take effect otherwise)

What's the output, when you enter this line in Terminal.app and hit return:

ls -Ral ~/Library/Application\ Support/Remote\ Buddy/Behaviours/

Do the track(s) you selected turn up in a playlist called "Remote Buddy" in iTunes? If yes, what happens if you try to play back its contents directly in iTunes?

Maybe iTunes is loading the track(s) you selected via iTunes Match. In my testing, and very much to my surprise, loading the music and playing it back could take iTunes anything from almost no time to half a minute. Please check whether iTunes is indicating it downloads your music selection when you select some.

Also, please also provide me with this info I asked for in my previous post:

- Please outline one definitive "path" through the menu that does not work for you, like f.ex. "iTunes Behaviour > Music Library > Albums > Sunday 8 PM > The Garden"
- Please also send me a screenshot of iTunes at the time that playback fails (=> to info@iospirit.com)
- Can you search for, select and play back the same track(s) directly in iTunes?

All that should bring me closer to being able to reproduce your issue. Right now I can't :-(

Felix Schwarz

Okay.. I just tested this. The RB iTunes behavior will not play playlists so example: iTunes Behaviour > Music Library > Playlist > A Step In Time-Trax > At The Cross will not play but everything else like iTunes Behaviour > Music Library > Albums > A cappella > Abide in Him will play. I've tested it through artists, tracks, etc and it plays. Only playlists will not play. Music is not loading from Match. It's direct from Hard Drive. When I play music through anything other than a playlist, RB creates a Remote Buddy playlist. However, I can not play that playlist through RB but I can directly through iTunes. All music plays directly through iTunes.

Thanks for the info!

One of the bugs in iTunes 11 is that the selection and playback of tracks (via AppleScript) only works while the iTunes sidebar is hidden.

Therefore, please try hiding the iTunes sidebar and test again. Does it work when the sidebar is hidden?

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz

P.S.: Actually, the workaround I've put in place in the iTunes Behaviour Update should detect a visible sidebar, hide it for you, switch to the playlist and show the sidebar again. If it does not in your case, I'll need to figure out why.

I've got same problem with iTunes 11.0.1 on Mac OS 10.8.2. All updates of RB are installed, hiding and unhiding sidebar didn't help.

After searching and not finding any more points of failure, I think I've found it now. It hid in plain sight:

Some iTunes 11 bugs (especially in the area of playlists) can only be worked around by using UI scripting. UI scripting, however, only works if you have enabled this option:

System Preferences > Accessibility > Enable access for assistive devices

Have you enabled this option? If not, please enable it and access to playlists should work as expected.

Please let me know.

Now it works, but playback starts only after quitting RB menu with 2 seconds timeout. With earlier versions of iTunes it worked much better.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll need a bit more info, though, to put this into context:

You select a track from a playlist in iTunes - and you then have to close the menu and then wait 2 seconds before anything happens?

Or does it simply take longer from the moment you click to the moment playback starts?

What Mac are you using, do you have the iTunes sidebar hidden or shown by default - and how many tracks are in the playlist you tried with?

Thanks in advance.

I select a track after that i must quit menu and then playback starts with 2-seconds timeout. Without quitting the menu playback will not start.
