The IR Receiver USB interface is used by IOUSBInterfaceUserClientV3
View

Hi,

since I upgraded MacMini to Yosemite I am experiencing regular kernel panics.
So I started to narrow down the cause.

When I re-ran my Candleair diagnostics one new potential conflict came up, which was new to me:

The IR Receiver USB interface is used by IOUSBInterfaceUserClientV3
An unknown driver class is accessing the USB interface of the IR Receiver. Depending on what it is doing, this may keep OS X and applications from receiving AppleŽ Remote button presses.

Can anybody tell me if that's normal unter 10.10?

Thanks!

For reasons (yet) unknown, Apple's own driver (AppleIRController.kext) appears to not get loaded for the internal IR Receiver on some machines. Then, the standard Apple IOUSB classes (IOUSBInterfaceUserClientV3 belong there) take over for the IR Controller.

There's no pattern yet for when this happens or what could trigger it. That issue seems to be pretty rare, though. For some it happens during boot, and for others after waking the Mac from sleep.

It is nothing that would or could lead to kernel panics, though.

As far as my own testing is concerned, the issue of AppleIRController.kext not getting loaded for the internal IR Receiver could be reliably fixed by installing the latest version of Candelair.

Thanks for this ultra-fast response.

By "reliably fixed" do you mean:

- install latest version of candleair (which I have)
- the error should go away?

I could no longer reproduce that issue after installing Candelair on the test machine the issue occurred.
