Problem with remote
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I just downloaded the remote version so I could use it with Powerpoint. The demo worked great. Now that I have it downloaded, I can't seem to get it fully functional. I can navigate using the remote through the Remote Buddy menu and open applications with it, but once I'm in an app (itunes, powerpoint) nothing happens. I also cannot get any of the input behaviours to work - no cursor reponse at all. I've got the latest OS X, a new MacBookPro, full version of the software and its activated. Help?

Hello Scott,

thanks for your posting.

Possible sources of errors I could see:

1) you have not actually activated the behaviour and/or are still in
the menu. What happens, if you press the menu button? How do you
select the behaviour?

2) you have deselected auto-detection of applications. Are both of
the checkboxes in the Preferences active?

3) did you make any changes to the mapping of the behaviours in
question?

4) which version is displayed in the about dialog? Do you have any
other software for the remote installed?

I'm confident this problem can be solved.

Well, I think I've done all the below -

1) I use the play button to select in the menu. When I press play, the
application opens, so I figured that was how the behaviour was selected. It
does say "Activate _" and I'm not sure I'm selecting that right.
2) Both of the boxes are checked
3) I didn't make any changes to any preferences
4) I have version 1.0 Preview 3

Maybe it's #1 that's the problem? Before I bought the license it navigated
fine with Powerpoint.

Hello Scott,

thanks for your follow up.

1) The play button is ok for activating the behaviour. It is
temporarily deactivated, though, when you press the menu button.

2+3) Thanks for the info.

4) Do you have any other remote control software installed?

Regarding the license: whether a copy is licensed or not does not
affect the functions of Remote Buddy in any way - except the 30 day
timeout of course :-)

Regarding PowerPoint: do you have a presentation already loaded into
PowerPoint?

Thanks!

I do not have any other software. I load up a powerpoint presentation with
the mouse. I do have a new intel-mac. Is this a problem?

Hello Scott,

thanks for the info. Intel macs and using the mouse in parallel
should not cause any problems at all.

The only thing that I can still think of that could be causing this
is when PowerPoint is not the currently active application
(PowerPoint displayed on the left in the menu bar).

Did you try once more since your original post?

Thanks for the help! Sorry it's taken awhile, but I think I'll I needed was
a restart of the computer - now its working great! I don't know if others
have had a problem or if I missed that I needed to restart after authorizing
the product, but it worked originally right on download. Anwyays, thanks

I don't know why but I'm having the same problem again now that I've downloaded Version 4 just now. I've tried restarting a couple times and I'm still having problems: The menu button always works with apps. but ussually the others do not. Same issue I had before. Maybe in a few days it will work fine like it did last time.

Hello Scott,

there has been a problem with Front Row in preview 4. That's why I
just released the follow-up preview 5 (it fixes the problem with FR).
In which applications does this happen?

Does executing

grep "Remote Buddy" /Library/Logs/Console/501/console.log

in Terminal yield any results?
(replace 501 with 502, 503, ... if you are not the only and first
user on your system)
