problems with preview 5

I know this isn't specific enough, but maybe it will ring a bell with somebody. At first Remote Buddy simply wouldn't do virtual mouse. But after quitting and restarting a few times, mouse stuff finally started working in Safari, and now it works generally. Another issue: after running for a day, with several sleep/wake cycles, Remote Buddy forgot its Behaviors. It would launch PhotoBooth, but none of the behaviors would work, and the virtual mouse wouldn't work. Quitting and starting fixed it. I was going to show my boss how great this is, and I'm glad she didn't see this performance. I hope all the big bugs get worked out soon.

Hello John,

thanks for sharing. Could you send me your preference files (~/
Library/Preferences/com.iospirit.remotebuddy*) to info@iospirit.com,
so I can have a look at them? After sending me those files you might
want to follow the FAQ entry I added just yesterday about reseting RB
to factory defaults (the last one in the list).

Someone else did have similiar problems and resetting RB to factory
defaults solved it for him.

Also, it would be interesting to know, if

grep "Remote Buddy" /Library/Logs/Console/501/console.log

executed in the Terminal outputs anything. This will show me, if an
exception is thrown somewhere in the code, which can lead to this
kind of problems as well.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

I also have had this problem from time to time. It is sparatic, but on occassion, remote buddy will open its window, but after I select a behaviour it will launch it, say Front Row, but when I click on a command on the remote the computer just beeps at me, no matter what command I push. So if I quit Remote Buddy and then restart it fixes the issue. I have even had this happen after it has been working fine and then it sudden will do it.

I can say I never had this happen until I upgraded to Preview 5.

It seems to be some kind of random bug.

Hi Erick,

I, too, found that problem when the automatic choice of behaviours
for fore- and background applications is disabled. Are (or have)
those by any chance (been) your settings, too?

I am currently spending a lot of time on the internals that do choose
behaviours, interact with the menu and issue a beep if no
functionality was found for a button press. In fact, I took the
opportunity to clean up these parts once and for all and replaced
them entirely. Gives some bonus functionality, too, but more on this
on preview 6 release day ;-)

Anyway, back on topic: with the changes I made, this problem is gone
here.

Best regards,
Felix

P.S.: Erick, should you experience this problem again, please execute

grep "Remote Buddy" /Library/Logs/Console/501/console.log

in Terminal and let me know what it has to say.

Thanks in advance!
