Stop recording in EyeTV

Hi

I'm not sure if I missed the feature. But I can't stop recording in EyeTV with RemoteBuddy. It would be great if it were on the same key like start recording. If you're recording and want to quit EyeTV there's an info message you have to klick... That's a bit a problem.

Hello Nicolas,

that's interesting.

Can you please go into more detail on which steps you made?
Did you start recording, then playback a recording, while the
recording is still running .. or something else?
Did you start recording manually? (i.e. directly via mouse or
keyboard, not Remote Buddy)

I'm asking, because Remote Buddy is actually remembering what state
it last put EyeTV in and send commands to start and stop recording
depending on that. Now, you seem to experience an edge case where
this does not work - and I'd love to learn about it :-)

Best regards,
Felix

Hm, strange.

Today I made the Remote Buddy Update. It solve the crashing problem when changing the resolution. And now also it works with the recording. I don't no why.
Perhaps you could still change the entry named "Aufnahme" to "Aufnahme starte / stoppen".

The most time when I'm watching TV I start the recording. So I can stop whenever I want. But often I forget to stop recording before I quit. Then a Pop-Up window appears with two options. Now I have to klick a button with a keyboard or change to Mouse Mode. That's not really a Remote Buddy problem. But perhaps anybody now's a workaround. An AppleScript that automatically selectes the "Cancel" option when I'm quitting EyeTV... Any ideas?

Hmm, I've been thinking about it for a few days now and think I've
found a solution. I hope to include it in the next release.

Sounds great. In the last days I run into some problems with VLC. It crashed when I started a movie. Then Remote Buddy is waiting till the starting is finished (what never happens). So I have to use the keyboard the quit VLC imediatly. At the moment, I'm cheking out if it's only a problem of my System or if it's conencted to Remote Buddy.

In the last few days I also thougt about the integration of the mobile phone screen to show what's happening. I've only a projector connected to my Mac Mini. Sometimes I want only to listen to music without starting the projector. So it would be great to have a small screen showing what's happening in Front Row or Remote Buddy.

At the moment I'm reading into some Java/Bluetooth stuff to build a tool that can send strings to the mobile phone and display it. It's only an idea. If it gets more conrete I will inform you.

I checked the VLC problem and it seems to be a Core 2 Duo Problem with Rosetta and should be solved in VLC 0.8.6.

An other thing that happend to me this morning: I opened DVD Player and there was a pop-up window that asked to continue the DVD at the last position or to start from the beginning. I had to change to the mouse action. I think this is more or less the same problem like in EyeTV. Perhaps you have a good idea :-)

Hello Nicolas,

thanks for letting me know. But isn't VLC Universal by now?

If you want to choose the default button in that dialog, you can
press the Play button to dismiss this dialog.

I have a number of ideas for dialogs already, but none of them has
made it into code yet ;-)

Felix

I also thougt that VLC is Universal. But I found this ticket:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/668

In my logs Rosetta also appears...

Edit: I found this entry: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=16725

Edit2: Ok, I got it. Their are two Versions of VLC. One PowerPC and one Intel Versions. It's not Universal. So I messed up again (sorry guys). I downloaded the PowerPC Version for an Intel machine. Now I hope the Intel Version solves the problems.

Huh .. that's spooky :-)

I'm sure, though, they'll find and fix that bug.

EyeTv natively allows one to select the cancel button in he dialog using left/right and play. It is a great feature which ouwld be fantastic to see in Remote Buddy (see my othere post) BUT it may be VERY hard OR impossible to achieve (or is it just a tab and return key mapping required with dialogs in foreground??)..

Did you ever get an applescript or can anyone think of an elegant solution ?\

cheers

Hello Chris,

as mentioned earlier, please update to the latest version of Remote
Buddy. That particular problem is already solved for a while.

Felix

I am replying to a similar message to get some help, as
I have been trying to participate in the RB forum, but have not been
able to use the

I see much EyeTV discussion on this thread!

I was trying to use the Keyspan Remote for Front Row
to run EyeTV and Front Row (ONLY these 2 apps!) on a mac cube-
but I think my "simple enough for the babysitter" full screen
approach is incompatible with the RemoteBuddy menu navigation methodology.

Has anyone been able to get RemoteBuddy on an old mac
to switch back and forth between EyeTV and Front Row
the way the Apple Remote does on a new mac?

I appreciate all the great features that RB allows you to do,
but I am just looking for basic Apple Remote functionality on an old mac!
Keyspan Remote for Front Row can run Front Row well on an older mac,
but it doesn't run EyeTV in the way an Apple Remote would on a new mac.

Hello Mark,

thanks for your posting.

Regarding the email problem:
Generally, please don't post any dynamically created email addresses
from this forum to the forum as they allow anybody to post to this
thread with your nickname. I've thus removed it from the posting on
the web.

The website does only send you the error message for a multipart mail
(specified in the Content-Type field of the mail header - you may
want to have a look at the raw email in your outbox). This can be
attached digital signatures, styled text, HTML emails or attachments.

As a backup, you can also always post to the forum directly over the
web. The email <-> forum gateway is merely a bonus.

Anyhow, this email of yours, as a text-only mail, got through just fine :-)

Regarding your setup / configuration question:
I'd suggest to create a custom menu with just Front Row and EyeTV in
it, if that's all you want to be able to access. You'll probably be
able to strip down the menu even further in a future release, but no
promises, yet (more configuration options give more possibilities,
but also make it harder to both find and make use of them in an
intuitive way).

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Felix
