Choose display for remote buddy as action?
View

I love the ability to pick which display for the remote buddy menu....but it would be much more useful to choose with the remote, as an action.

I have to switch between my MacBook display and TV pretty regularly, would be nice to not have to go into preferences.

yeah i love the display selection also.

is it possible to have an option to enable the menu on both screens even without video mirroring on?
this way i can turn mirroring on or off from which screen i am sitting in front of.
my imac is feeding a TV in another room and i swap mirroring depending on whicg screen i am using.

Hello Joshua,

thanks for your post.

Your idea is pretty good IMO, so I've added this to the ToDo list.

Hello Luke,

that's an interesting idea.

Since the menu is a true NSView though and not rendered as an image
in a frame buffer at this stage, this would have a major performance
impact and be certainly pretty complicated to implement given Remote
Buddy's current structure (which, as such, is incredibly flexible,
but not in this point ;-).

Best regards,
Felix

I really like this idea, and would like to add a related request:

Could Remote Buddy be made to switch between the available displays when you first bring it up?

For example, with a dual-screen setup, you start Remote Buddy by *holding* the menu button instead of just clicking it. The RB menu appears on the main display for a couple of seconds, then moves to the second display, and continues back-and-forth while you hold the remote's menu button. When you release the menu button, RB will use that display for the rest of the session.

This would work very well for me as I often have to change the display setting between my computer screen and the TV in a second room. With automatic switching, I could just hold the button until the menu shows up on the right display.

Great product, by the way! I like it so much I've bought it only three days into my trial period.

Hello James,

thanks for the encouraging feedback! :-)

I do fear, though, that the feature you request is too specific as it
is. The menu button, when held in the menu, already has a function
assigned to it and the number of available buttons on the Apple
Remote is too low to justify the sacrifice of more than one
possibility to invoking the menu.

However, I also have to offer a solution to you:

If you switch between your screens a lot, consider configuring your
own custom menu. To do that, go to the Preferences, choose the "Menu"
tab, select "James's profile" instead of the "default profile" and
then drag the respective screen actions from the left to a position
of your liking into the menu. If you use it often, this could f.ex.
be the top level. Since, inside the menu, a long press on left will
bring you to the main level, you can then access this functionality
very quickly in the menu, no matter where in the menu you currently are.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Felix
