This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. I just bought Remote Buddy to use it as a media center control. Just some suggestions about the VLC behaviour: 1. Why not add in the VLC behaviour a file browser that goes to a specific folder and filter only files playable by VLC (.avi, .mov, .divx, etc..) 2. Possibility to group parts of a movie as single movie. Example: "The Gladiator - CD1.avi" & "The Gladiator - CD2.avi" is shown as "The Gladiator" 3. Why not also the idea of a full screen Remote Buddy UI? Maybe I'm going outside the scope of the project... ;-) Anyway this is a great software!

These entries from the FAQ may be relevant to this topic: Hardware - Apple® Remote
To enable you to use all capabilities of the IR Receiver of your Mac®, Remote Buddy is using its own driver. In contrast, all other applications with integrated Apple® Remote support usually use the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.
As long as you're running Remote Buddy, Remote Buddy and its driver are responsible for turning the received button presses into actions. As soon as you quit Remote Buddy, this task is again handled by the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.
If other applications don't use the interface to the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem correctly, this can lead to the effect that nothing happens when you press a button on your Apple® Remote. For as long as you're running Remote Buddy, issues like this are covered by Remote Buddy and it's driver and are therefore not visible to you. However, as soon as you quit Remote Buddy, the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem is back in control and any issues caused in it by other applications become visible.
Therefore Remote Buddy is neither the cause of the issue nor is it responsible for it. Instead, the cause of the issue exists independently of Remote Buddy. It's located elsewhere and can also only be solved there.
Although our products can't cause any such issues, we're regularly contacted about such issues and asked for help. In order to make locating and fixing the cause of such issues as easy and efficient as possible, we've developed a free diagnostics tool: Remote Control Diagnostics. It can locate issues with a single click and will provide you with information about the issue as well as with instructions on how you can fix it.

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hello Davide, thanks for sharing! 1) => be surprised with a future feature :-) 2) I'm not sure, whether this is really doable. Some would name their files "CD1 - some movie.avi", others "Some movie 1.avi" and yet others will name it "Some movie one.avi" and "Some movie 2.avi" or - even better - "Some move.avi" and "Some movie 2.avi". I fear this feature is a science of its own. BUT I've added it to the ToDo list nonetheless for future inspiration. Best regards, Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hi, I'm waiting for something like No. 1 as well. To me it would be good to have a function to add all files from a specific folder (or the DVD drive for example) to the playlist of VLC, so that you can browse with the forward and backward button through them. I have the same situation that some movies are split over several files on one DVD and currently I'm closing VLC after one file, going back to the file browser and opening the next one. Keep up the good work! Markus

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hello Markus, you shouldn't have to close VLC after each file. Instead, you should be able to select multiple files - one after another - and select to launch them with VLC. VLC should then queue it up in its playlist. However, I understand this is not the most elegant solution and I'll look at it. Best regards, Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. There is an easy work around to the CD1 CD2 problem i have made a folder inside my movie folder called "multi" and all of my multi-part movies are in there then in the main movie folder i create a text file with a m3u extension. in this example "The Gladiator.m3u" in that text file i write 2 lines ----------- multi/The Gladiator - CD1.avi multi/The Gladiator - CD2.avi ----------- now all i do is select the m3u file, and play it with VLC. it loads every thing in order and plays it.

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hello Wesley, thanks for sharing this! Another idea that springs to mind is to put these files in a VIDEO_TS folder. At least VLC should then play its contents regardless of format. Best regards, Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hi Felix, thanks for your idea, that's already helping a bit. It would be good if there was a way of marking the files that should then be transferred to VLC, but I don't know if that's possible. I will try the other two options with the playlist file and the VIDEO_TS folder also in the next couple of days. Thanks a lot so far! Markus

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Is there anyway to change the settings to hide extensions like .avi etc, all they do for me is take up unnecessary space if it's not possible see this as a tip ;) Also file browser in VLC is the only thing putting me off from buying this app will buy as soon as you release it :) //adamsen87

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hi, thank you for the latest great release! However I didn't found my suggested features, I'm a right? Do you still plan something like this? This would be a great step toward a perfect media center. Keep up the good work and thank you!

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hi, thank you for the last update. I think it's really nice to be able to add manually some folders on the movie library. The problem is your VIDEO_TS approach. Not all the playable media are on a VIDEO_TS folder. I think the suggestion #1 would be more flexible. What do you think? Thank you for your great application. This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. I'll continue to work on the Movie Library. For now, the easiest way to browse your avi/divx/.. files is to customize the menu of VLC / QT Player / .. accordingly by dragging and dropping the root folder of all of your divx files into the Context Menu of Remote Buddy (Preferences > Behaviours > *Player of your choice* > Context Menu). This way, you gain quick access to your files from within the players with the remote control. You can also transition your movies into a VIDEO_TS folder structure: My Movies / Blockbuster Movie A / Cover.jpg VIDEO_TS/ BlockBusterMovieA_01.avi BlockBusterMovieA_02.avi Blockbuster Movie B / AnyFileNameWillDo.jpg VIDEO_TS/ MovieB01.divx MovieB02.divx and can then access them through the Movie Library with VLC (DVD Player will not play back most media). Benefits: 1) Covers attached to your movies. 2) Well organized movie collection. 3) Available now. Downside: Needs some time to initially set up. Best regards, Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. I tried the above suggestion, and it's great! It's very nice to be able to open my files so quickly, without navigating the file tree. I'm having a small problem, though, and I just can't figure out what I need to fix. I have my "TV" directory as part of my VLC context menu. If I choose a file in this directory, I get the standard menu to choose the application to open - when I choose VLC, the file is opened and plays correctly, but VLC is not activated within Remote Buddy - I'm still on the menu that lets me choose the app. How do I make VLC activate when I choose a file? I also have "TV" directory as part of my main profile menu, when I choose a file starting here, VLC is activated in RB properly. What is different in these 2 cases? I hope my question is clear. Thanks for a truly spectacular product, Tracey

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hello Tracey, thanks for asking. Actually, once you have selected VLC from the menu, the menu should go away and VLC should become the front most application as a file was just opened with it (it does here, just tried). This behaviour should not differ between the two scenarios you mention as the code doesn't differentiate them. What is different, though, is that if you press Menu after launching a file from within the VLC Behaviour's context menu, you'll return to the launch menu more or less deep into the context menu rather than the root level of the context menu. You can always (no matter where you are in the menu) return to the root level of the context menu of the currently running up by first holding left to return to the menu's global root level, then pressing menu twice to hide it first, then reopen it at the context menu level of the currently active Behaviour. If you didn't mean that, please let me know. Best regards, Felix
