Eye TV recording when activity ended issue

I have Harmony Remote paired with Remote Buddy controlling Mac Mini, Eye TV, Sony TV and a Yamaha AV receiver. When I turn off the activity by pressing the 'Off' button on the remote, I get a momentary message (it looks like an EyeTV message) at the left top of the screen: "Recording Started", immediately followed by a message: "Recording Stopped". All devices then turn off as they should (that is, the TV and AV receiver - the Mac Mini stays running as it should).This leaves very short recordings in the EyeTV library which I (or more importantly my wife) then have to clean up.

I have not re-assigned the off button in any way, either in Harmony or Remote Buddy. This does not happen if I do not use Remote Buddy. I have assigned all the remote buttons per the How To on the IOSPIRIT website.

Any suggestions?

Hardware - Apple® Remote

After uninstalling/quitting Remote Buddy, my Mac® no longer reacts to the Apple® Remote. (FAQ015E0241)
To enable you to use all capabilities of the IR Receiver of your Mac®, Remote Buddy is using its own driver. In contrast, all other applications with integrated Apple® Remote support usually use the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

As long as you're running Remote Buddy, Remote Buddy and its driver are responsible for turning the received button presses into actions. As soon as you quit Remote Buddy, this task is again handled by the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

If other applications don't use the interface to the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem correctly, this can lead to the effect that nothing happens when you press a button on your Apple® Remote. For as long as you're running Remote Buddy, issues like this are covered by Remote Buddy and it's driver and are therefore not visible to you. However, as soon as you quit Remote Buddy, the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem is back in control and any issues caused in it by other applications become visible.

Therefore Remote Buddy is neither the cause of the issue nor is it responsible for it. Instead, the cause of the issue exists independently of Remote Buddy. It's located elsewhere and can also only be solved there.

Hardware - Harmony® Smart Control

Which Harmony commands need to be assigned to the respective buttons on the Smart Control so that I can use all buttons with Remote Buddy? (FAQ015E0265)

If I haven't used the Harmony Smart Remote for a few minutes, Remote Buddy does not react to the first button press. (FAQ015E0263)
Please verify that no power saving options are enabled at "Remote Buddy > Preferences > Hardware > Bluetooth Receiver".

Hello Colin,

with default PS3 settings, the Hub sends a sequence of button presses to Remote Buddy when you tell the Harmony to turn off the devices. Since the PS3 has no dedicated power off command, my best guess is that the Harmony tries to enter and navigate menus here to turn off a PS3.

This can/will lead to unwanted effects like the one you observed.

You can avoid this by making the adjustments outlined in the official HowTo, Step 3, "Tweaking power settings":

Hi Felix,

well - I had tweaked the power settings as per the guide when I first set up Remote Buddy. However I have had several Harmony app crashes (I upgraded to the latest version and now it seems stable). When I checked the power settings for the Sony PS again, they were back at default. I tweaked them again and now it works OK. Thanks again for the response.
