How to import a plex keymap into the Plex behaviour
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hello all,

I have been struggling with my Harmony One/ Plex/ Remote Buddy/ Mac Mini setup.
I have followed the mac mini harmony blog as best as I can: http://miniharmony.blogspot.nl/ but I get stuck at assigning the buttons on my harmony.
I have a few standard ones that i found after installation but I have no idea how to add the rest.
a few screenshots to illustrate my question:
http://prntscr.com/5399xb this is the global mapping where i added the "activate Plex behaviour" as mentioned in the mini harmony blog
http://prntscr.com/539afc in the Plex behaviour only a few standard commands are represented and they are the same in all the virtual apple remotes
http://prntscr.com/539at9 In behaviours the Plex behaviour is empty is that correct?
http://prntscr.com/539b6g this is how the mini harmony blog says the plex keymap should look, how do i get it in remote buddy?

Many thanks for your time,
greetings,
olav

If you don't really need Plex, you could try this Harmony profile:

Device: Media Center PC
Manufacturer: IOSPIRIT
Model: Remote Buddy Universal

It works perfectly for me. There is still quite a lot of setup. Rather than using the list of Plex assignments (shown in prntscr.com/539b6g), I developed a list of my own.

Have you created all the virtual remotes that you need ? You can give each virtual remote a name "AR211". I created 11. Once you've created them, you can use the Mapping pane to assign Harmony keys to each of the 12 available commands. Have a look at my assignments:

http://grapevine.com.au/~brooke01/My_Harmony_Key_Assignments.pdf

The assignments in the "Raw Key" and "Key" columns should be the same for everyone. I set the function performed as shown in the last column using the Mapping function and various custom and built-in actions etc.

Cheers.

Hello Garry,

many thanks for your answer.
I am using plex, really the only thing i use no that i think of it, on my media-pc mac mini.
But you may be able to help me if you can explain how i do the mapping. I looked at you example but I do not know where i should assign those keys/buttons/values in remote buddy.
I have made the 'virtual' apple remotes so i have the setup ready up to that point.
Hope you can explain me how you did the mapping of the keys as in your spreadsheet,
regards,
olav

If all you want to do is pass through Apple Remote commands to Plex, you don't need to use multiple remotes support in Remote Buddy. Instead, you can use the Virtual Remote to forward Apple Remote button presses to the OS X Apple Remote subsystem, from where Plex' helper can pick it up:

https://www.iospirit.com/blog/article/131/Remote-Buddy-and-Boxee-Plex-and-XBMC/ (Q: I'd like to use the Harmony remote mode of Plex.)

http://prntscr.com/539afc in the Plex behaviour only a few standard commands are represented and they are the same in all the virtual apple remotes
http://prntscr.com/539b6g this is how the mini harmony blog says the plex keymap should look, how do i get it in remote buddy?

If you want to implement that blog post's suggestions instead, you'd probably have to use the table you posted (http://prntscr.com/539b6g) and assign the actions according to that table.

F.ex. for "AR159 > Links" select the action "Red".

http://prntscr.com/539at9 In behaviours the Plex behaviour is empty is that correct?

Yes, since there are no options to be set for Plex as a whole. Take a look at the Behaviour options for the Virtual Mouse to see what options for a Behaviour look like.

The mapping of actions to buttons is configured in Prefs > Mapping.

Hello Felix, many thanks for your suggestions, it is late now and I will be busy for a day or two before I can find out if I can get this to work.
Will report back here when I have.

I have re installed my Harmony with Plex, Remote buddy and (after reading about some Yosemite issues) the Candelair driver.
The good news is that my Harmony can send commands to Plex. I have tried to attach the keymap buttons to the Harmony through the virtual Apple remotes but I have some trouble to get that working. I will work on that a bit longer.
If Plex commands are not in the keymap (see the picture in my 1st post) how do I add one. Subtitles are inportant in some instances and having a button for the various subtitles functions would be a great bonus. If someone can help me to add these I would be very grateful.
Many thanks again for your help, i really appreciate it.
