This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Still happening unfortunately. If anything it's worse.

I'm not waking the mini from sleep, it's always on. If left for about an hour all buttons become unresponsive and take about 3-4 minutes to start working. Same issue as I described before only it's takinng longer to come back online.
