Re: Re: Multi Apple Remotes via eHome Receiver

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.

So am I correct in thinking that when 1.11.4 is out,

1.11.4 is available for a few weeks now ;-)

I'll be able to set up a mapping in the Plex behavior that would
correctly pass through all the possible button states of all 10
remote IDs that the Plex folks put in the Harmony database?

Yes. For button presses originating from an Apple built-in IR
receiver, all actions of the virtual remote will take the ID of the
Apple Remote into account and generate Apple Remote events just like
if RB wasn't running. It's totally transparent.

Thus having Plex behave in exactly the same way it would with its
own native support, but still allowing other applications to be
controlled by Remote Buddy?

Yes. Since the Harmony does use the menu key in multiple places,
though, you'd have to do the following if you still want to enter the
RB menu directly with your remote (other than by quitting Plex, which
will always work):

1) Enable "Multiple Remote" support in RB Prefs > Hardware > Apple IR
Receiver. Stay in that prefs pane.

2) Identify a button on your remote that you want to use to open the
RB menu and that you won't want to use in Plex.

3) Press that button. The Remote ID is added to the list and
highlighted.

4) Create a new logical remote and map it to that ID.

5) Now in RB > Prefs > Mapping > Plex, map the normal Apple Remote as
seen at
http://static.iospirit.com/static/objectfiles/image/649/EmulationConfig.jpg
(except that in that screenshot, Global mapping is selected - but in
this case, you'll really want to use the mapping table for the Plex
Behaviour).

6) In the same place, apply the same settings for the logical remote
you just set up.

7) Find out by trial and error which Apple Remote button the button
you identified in step 1) actually represents and map "Open Remote
Buddy menu" to it.

Alternatively - as hinted previously - if returning to RB's menu when
quitting Plex is really all you need, all you have to do is

1) Go to RB > Prefs > Mapping > Plex

2) Apply the mapping as seen at
http://static.iospirit.com/static/objectfiles/image/649/EmulationConfig.jpg
(except that in that screenshot, Global mapping is selected - but in
this case, you'll really want to use the mapping table for the Plex
Behaviour).

It's really easy.

Incidentally, I figured out all the remote IDs and button press
combos for each button defined in the Harmony database last night,
and I have the list if anyone wants to avoid going through the same
mess for themselves. This would likely be useful even for people who
aren't using Plex - it's the equivalent of a 60-key remote without
needing a third-party IR receiver.

Which Harmony Remote are you using?
Which remote control from the database have you picked?

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz
